POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. – The Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team traveled on Saturday for its third open tournament of the season, competing in the Life University/Club Lucha Open.
Eleven different grapples represented the Blue Raiders, including Nate Becker, Arlo Laxton, and Christopher Greil who combined for 22.5 of Lindsey Wilson's 38 total team points on the day.
At 133, Becker came off a bye in the opening round to trample Midway's (Ky.) Tyrique Simms 23-11, but then dropped a 9-5 decision in the following round to move into the consolation bracket. The senior went on to win three consecutive bouts. One by a 17-0 technical fall, another by a 12-10 decision, and a third by fall after 1:15. Becker's day eventually ended in the seventh round.
Laxton also made his run in the 133-pound weight division, earning a technical fall victory before falling into the consolation bracket. There, he posted back-to-back wins with a pin at 52 seconds and a 17-7 major decision.
Greil rattled off three straight wins in the heavyweight class after an opening-round loss. He finished with two technical falls and a pin of Pikeville's (Ky.) Gavin Hunt before ultimately bowing out of the consolation group in the fifth round.
Elsewhere for Lindsey Wilson, Lucas Giles collected six team points behind two wins by fall at 141, and Colin Noel secured 5.5 team points with two pins of his own at 125.
The Blue Raiders are off the next two weekends before making their home debut in the NAIA Challenge Duals on December 9.
