Box Score OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team fell to No. 5 Xavier (La.) 4-2 in the fifth-place match at the ITA NAIA National Men's Team Indoor Championship at the Overland Park Racquet Club, giving them sixth-place at the tournament.
In the doubles matches Sebastian Junqhanns and Lucas Marques were downed by Nereo Suarez and Jacobi Bain, 6-1, in the No. 1 doubles match. The Blue Raiders then collected a win seeing Anatoliy Voloshyn and Jan Silhavy topple Julius Hell and Mathieu Strauss 6-4, leaving it all up to the No. 3 doubles match. Firas Ben Chouikha and Tiago Almeida were defeated by Dedric Ray and Guillermo Coiras, 6-4, giving the Gold Nuggets the doubles point.
In the No. 1 singles match Bain bested Chouikha, 6-0, 6-3, making the overall score 2-0 in favor of XULA. Silhavy then got a point for the Blue Raiders in his matchup against Suarez, 6-2, 6-0. Junqhanns then fell to Strauss, 6-0, 6-2. Almeida defeated Coiras in, 7-5, 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 5 match leaving it to the No.4 singles match. In a match that lasted two hours and twenty eight minutes, Hell was successful over Voloshyn 6-1, 6-7, and 7-6, giving Xavier the 4-2 win
The No. 6 singles match between Marques and Jered Wilson went unfinished at, 6-2, 6-6, when the match was called.
The Blue Raiders now gear up for the Grizzly Invitational in Lawrenceville, Georgia, taking on top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett on Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. CT.
