Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team was stifled by visiting Shawnee State (Ohio) 70-48 on Saturday afternoon at Biggers Sports Center.
Two Blue Raiders in Jordyn Stephens and Alera Barbee reached double-figures, with the latter of the two scoring double-figures in her last four of five games.
The Bears controlled the contest from the tip-off, not allowing the Blue Raiders to get open looks. Turnovers for LWC saw Shawnee State take a 17-4 lead, triggering a timeout for Lindsey Wilson. A Stephens three-pointer cut into the Bears' lead as the first quarter came to a close, with the Bears leading 23-11.
Shawnee State continued limiting the Blue Raiders offensive attack while cutting through the LWC defense itself. Lindsey Wilson settled into the game more, trading baskets to end the quarter with the Bears still staying in front, 40-25, and maintaining their lead. Shawnee State tallied 15 points off LWC turnovers and got out in transition with 12 fast break points.
Out of the break, the Blue Raiders started slicing into the Bears lead with Amelia Hodges and Lucy Patterson baskets. Lindsey Wilson, getting into an offensive rhythm cut the lead to 48-33, leading into a media timeout. Marnae Holland started to heat up for the Bears, pushing the lead to 60-42 as the third-quarter whistle blew.
The Bears extended their lead to 22 points as the Blue Raiders couldn't make up the lost ground, showing Shawnee State the 70-48 lead as the buzzer sounded.
Lindsey Wilson was held to 32.8 percent shooting from the field while also only getting to the foul line for five shots.
The Blue Raiders return to the hardwood at Biggers Sports Center on Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m. CT for Senior Day where they will take on No. 20 Cumberlands (Ky.).
