Patriots Pull Away Late to Down Women's Basketball

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team fell to No, 20 Cumberlands (Ky.) 76-57, on Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center for the Blue Raiders Senior Day.

Senior Maleigha Oldham led the way for LWC, producing a team-high 18 points. Amelia Hodges and Lucy Patterson followed suit with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Jordyn Stephens also added a team-high five rebounds while tying Oldham for a game-high mark of three steals.

Hodges made her mark in the first quarter, trading buckets with Kassie Monday to the tune of nine points throughout the first ten minutes of play. Oldham gave the Blue Raiders the lead with 2:20 to play after her corner three gave her the first of her 18 points. As time expired, Juliah Bault hit a buzzer-beater from the volleyball line to give Lindsey Wilson the 22-20 lead after the first frame.

In the second quarter, the Blue Raider offensive output ran through Oldham, as she added to her total. She produced 12 points with two three-pointers, snatching two steals. Oldham capped off an 11-0 run from two free throws with 3:40 left in the first half, but the Patriots did not stop. Cumberlands then went on a 7-2 run to close the quarter and pin the contest at 41-36 in favor of Lindsey Wilson.

Patriots' Amerah Steel used a layup to cut into the Blue Raiders lead, having the score show a one-point lead for LWC, 43-42. More back-and-forth action ensued in the third frame, with the Blue Raiders forcing Cumberlands into seven turnovers in the quarter while the Patriots limited them to just 30.7 percent from the field. As the horn sounded for the third quarter, Lindsey Wilson saw themselves hold a two-point lead over Cumberlands, 52-50.

Patterson opened up the scoring in the fourth quarter, but the game saw the Patriots embark on a 26-3 run to end the game, connecting on 78.6 percent of their shots from the field. Kassie Monday led the offensive explosion, finishing with a game-high 20 points. The scoreboard showed Cumberlands winning the contest 76-57, as the final buzzer sounded on the final home game of the 2022-23 regular season.

The Patriots controlled the glass, having the rebounding disparity show 38-20 in favor of Cumberlands. Lindsey Wilson forced the Patriots into 20 turnovers, leading to 24 points off turnovers.

The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team returns to the hardwood when they close out the regular season with a trip to Georgetown (Ky.) on Saturday at Noon CT at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
