PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team saw their season come to an end in a hard-fought 70-59 defeat against Shawnee State University (Ohio) in the Opening Round of the MSC Tournament on Tuesday.

LWC had four Blue Raiders in double figures with Lucy Patterson leading with 18 points on 50% FG shooting and hauled in nine boards along with three steals. Amelia Hodges followed up with 12 points of her own and a team-high three assists. Jordyn Stephens and Maleigha Oldham finished with 11 and ten points, respectively.

The start of the first half was very competitive as both squads worked to get in rhythm on offense. Both sides traded leads back and forth multiple times before the Bears made continuous stops and tallied in scores on the other end. Shawnee State then went on a 8-0 run to go up seven with 2:18 remaining in the first quarter that led to the Bears leading 18-11 heading into the second.

Lindsey Wilson came out in the second with some intensity as they cut the deficit to just one around the 6:30 mark. Offensive struggles by the Blue Raiders allowed SSU to outscore LWC 16-2 to close the half.

The Bears dominated the paint in the first half with a 16-8 points in the paint advantage as Lindsey Wilson shot a struggling 22% from the field at halftime. SSU also had two players in double digit scoring while Patterson was just shy of ten first half points with eight and six rebounds.

Coming into the second half, the Blue Raiders showed some resilience as they picked up the pace and found open looks at the basket throughout the third. Shawnee State continued their offensive success in the third quarter despite the LWC turnaround on offense as they went to the fourth with a 51-37 lead.

LWC battled themselves back into the contest as they cut the Bears lead to just nine in the final minutes of the game but could not overcome the deficit as Shawnee State held onto the 70-59 victory.

The Blue Raiders wrap up their season in Portsmouth, Ohio as they fall 70-59 to Shawnee State in the Opening Round of the MSC Tournament. Coach John B. Wethington and Lindsey Wilson finished the season with an MSC record of 4-18 and 10-19 overall.
