Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team defeated visiting (RV) Huntington (Ind.), 4-1, for the home opener of the 2023 season at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex, on Saturday afternoon.
In the doubles matches, the Blue Raiders notched the day's first win as Jan Silhavy and Anatoliy Voloshyn downed Illia Turaba and Angel Vazquez, 6-0. The Foresters then took the next two doubles matches in Santiago Diaz and Tiago Almeida falling to Mateo Ameller and Alejo Bagnera, 6-3, as Firas Ben Chouikha and Ilyas Kouchairi were defeated by Agustin Agostoand Valentin Mussi, 6-3, giving Huntington the doubles point.
In the singles matches the Blue Raiders saw themselves tie the match at 1-1 with Lucas Marques toppling Vazquez, 6-1, 6-1. Silhavy then won against Agosto, 6-1, 6-1, shortly after Voloshyn downed Cristian Rodriguez, 6-0, 6-1, putting Lindsey Wilson one point away from the win. Almeida defeated Mussi, 6-2, 6-2, awarding the Blue Raiders their fourth point of the day and the 4-1 victory.
The matches in Kouchairi against Bagnera and Diaz versus Ameller went unfinished, 7-6 (10-8) and 5-7, 4-0, respectively, as LWC had already secured the 4-1 victory.
The Blue Raiders will be back on the court for their conference opener on the road against No. 12 Cumberland (Tenn.) on Mar. 2 at Tommy Gray Memorial Tennis Courts at 1 p.m. CT.
