Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team fell to No. 25 Pikeville, 55-43, at UPIKE Gym on Saturday evening.
Two Blue Raiders in Alera Barbee and Lucy Patterson finished in double-figures, both with 12 points. The latter of the two corralled a game-high nine rebounds, barely missing out on her seventh double-double on the season.
The contest started out as a defensive battle in the first frame, with both teams contesting shots and not being able to take the lid off the rim. After trading a few baskets, this led the game to a 9-7 first ten minutes in favor of the Bears.
Pikeville started off the second quarter with a three from Mary Englert, triggering a 7-2 Bears run. Lindsey Wilson answered back with a 6-0 run from themselves with baskets from Barbee, Patterson and Olivia Perry, once again trading blows. Allie Stone then came down making two jumpshots and pushing the game into Pikeville's favor 24-20 as the halftime horn sounded.
The two teams produced more of the same in the third frame, both scoring ten points each while also both wrangling ten rebounds. Barbee used three baskets late in the third to cut the lead to four, with the Bears still leading 34-30 having the final ten minutes to play.
Two quick baskets from both teams led into a 16-8 run for Pikeville to close out the game, squeezing out any momentum built up for the Blue Raiders, shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the field to close out the contest.
Pikeville eventually won the contest 55-43, after showing the lead balloon to thirteen when the final whistle blew.
Lindsey Wilson will return to the hardwood at Biggers Sports Center on Saturday when they take on the Shawnee State (Ohio) Bears at 1 p.m. CT.
