Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. - The Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team was defeated by Cumberland (Tenn.), 4-3, in their Mid-South Conference opener on Wednesday at Tommy Gray Memorial Tennis Courts.
In the doubles matches, Julian Parada and Germon Suarez defeated Tiago Almeida and Anatoliy Voloshyn, 6-2, as Jan Silhavy and Ilyas Kouchairi toppled Daniel Wessels and Dan Slapnik Trost, 6-4, leaving the doubles point in the hands of the No. 1 match. Lucas Marques and Santiago Diaz fell to the No. 9-ranked doubles pairing in Pavel Kelo and Adrijan Hrzic, 6-3, giving the Phoenix the doubles point.
In the singles portion of the match, No. 13-ranked Silhavy defeated Hrzic, 6-1, 6-3, as Suarez downed Voloshyn, 6-0, 6-2. Marques then evened up the scoring with a, 6-1, 6-1, victory over Fernando Flores, leading into No. 41-ranked Almeida beating Wessels, 6-4, 6-2, putting the Blue Raiders one victory away from winning the match. Parada defeated Diaz, 6-4, 6-3, leaving the game up to the No. 1 singles match. No. 23-ranked Kelo downed Ilyas Kouchairi, 1-6, 6-1, 7-5, giving the Phoenix the 4-3 match victory.
The Blue Raiders will be back on the courts when they face Tennessee Southern in Pulaski, on Mar. 7 at 1 p.m. CT.
