Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. - At Bob Amos Complex, the Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team polished off their conference schedule with a 5-2 win over Pikeville (Ky.) on Wednesday evening.
In doubles play, Juan Diego Alzate and Mirko Dedich defeated Santiago Diaz and Joaquin Mersch in their first pairing of the season, 6-4, leading into Tiago Almeida and Ilyas Kouchairi (8-0) downing Alfonso Robinson and Martin Lorenzo, 6-2, resting the doubles point on the No. 2 match. Valentin Ortiz and Paulo Castillo secured the Bears the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Jan Silhavy and Lucas Marques (3-2).
In the singles portion of the match, Diaz (1-5) fell to Castillo, 6-1, 6-2, leading into Kouchairi (6-5) notching the Blue Raiders' first point of the evening with a, 6-1, 6-0, victory over Robinson in straight sets. No. 48-ranked Almeida (14-0) made quick work of Diego Alzate for a, 6-1, 6-2 result, to tie the match score up at an even 2-2. Marques (10-4) then swung the score in the Blue Raiders' favor with his, 6-2, 6-2, victory over Dedich, showing Lindsey Wilson needed one point from the remaining two matches. No. 20-ranked Silhavy found himself in a battle with Ortiz in the No. 1 match, emerging victorious after a, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-0), resulting in the Blue Raiders collecting their final conference regular season win on the season. Mersch (2-2) etched the final score at 5-2 when he downed Lorenzo 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).
Lindsey Wilson will close out the 2023 regular season on Friday when they travel to Indiana for a non-conference bout with (RV) Marian (Ind.) at 2 p.m. CST.
