Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- A pair of punt returns for a touchdown and a defensive score helped Lindsey Wilson football to a 49-21 homecoming win over visiting Faulkner (Ala.) today at Parnell Family Stadium.
Logan Collier and Quantae Hicks each returned a punt for a score while Cameron Rankins recovered a fumble out of the air and rumbled 41 yards to help Lindsey Wilson match Faulkner's (1-3) point production today.
Jbias Dawson followed his record-breaking performance last week with 90 rushing yards and three touchdowns to lead the offense. Dawson now leads the Mid-South Conference with eight rushing touchdowns this season.
Lindsey Wilson jumped out to an early lead following the Blue Raiders' first takeaway of the day. Dawson capitalized on Lindsey Wilson's fumble recovery at the Faulkner 5-yard line with a touchdown run on the first play following the turnover for the 7-0 lead.
Faulkner provided its best drive of the day on the subsequent series, using six plays to cover 81 yards to tie the game at 7-7. Ben Anderson connected with Kedric Lackey on a 39-yard touchdown toss to tie the game through the first quarter.
Lindsey Wilson dominated the second quarter, sprinting out to a 35-7 halftime lead with 28 unanswered points.
Ethan Cash found a streaking Collier up the seam for a 28-yard touchdown connection for a 14-7 lead. Collier finished with a team-high 68 receiving yards on five catches in the win. He surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for his career in the game.
Collier doubled the Lindsey Wilson lead with a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown with just over 11 minutes remaining in the half. The 73-yarder is the third-longest punt return in the program's history.
Rankins extended the lead with his touchdown -- the third of the second for the LWC defense -- and Dawson added his second touchdown of the day with just over four minutes left in the half for a 35-7 lead.
Dawson added a third score midway through the third period to help Lindsey Wilson (4-1) improve to 12-1 all-time during homecoming games, including winning 10 straight.
After Faulkner cut the deficit to 42-14 with a pick-six, Hicks matched Collier with a special teams score to push the lead to 49-14. The touchdown is the fifth by the special-teams unit this season.
The two punt returns for a touchdown marks the second time in the program's history that the Blue Raiders accomplished the feat -- matching the two touchdown punt returns on Sept. 5, 2015, at Lyon (Ark.).
LeAndre Bolen led a dominant defensive line that controlled the line of scrimmage. Bolen finished with six tackles, three tackles for a loss, and 2-1/2 sacks. Darius Willis Jr. added his third interception of the season. The Blue Raiders matched a season-high 10 tackles for a loss in the win.
Lindsey Wilson takes the win into a bye week next week. The Blue Raiders return to action at 12:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, October 14, as they travel to Campbellsville (Ky.) for the annual Battle of Highway 55.
