Swimming Emerges Victorious in Highway 55 Last Chance Invitational to Crown Senior Day

COLUMBIA, Ky. -  The Lindsey Wilson swimming team hosted Campbellsville in the Highway 55 Last Chance Invitational on Senior Day this Saturday. Tyler Buffel and Chase Hickman were honored on the men's side while Maaike Broersma, Jordyn Minifie, Savannah Schoeman, and Allie Rutherford were honored on the women's side.

The Lindsey Wilson women's team finished with 91 points, while Campbellsville finished with 11. The LWC ladies remarkably won every event. Four Blue Raiders met NAIA provisional standard times in their races.

Senior Allie Rutherford collected a win in the 100-yard butterfly with a provisional time of 1:01.37. In the 100-yard breaststroke she recorded a 1:10.92, another provisional time that placed her second behind teammate Sara Motyl who won the event with a time of 1:09.31. 

The 100-yard backstroke was topped by Natalia Gorska, finishing with a provisional time of 1:00.46. Senior Jordyn Minifie finished first in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:55.65, also meeting provisional standards. Minifie was the only swimmer to win three events at the meet, taking first place in the 200-yard IM (2:18.00) and topping the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.55). 

The following are the event winners that did not meet provisional times in their respective events. 

-Hannah Woyscheszik in the 50-yard freestyle (26.49).
-Natascha Evreinoff in the 100-yard freestyle (57.26).
-Jaye Farthing in the 500-yard freestyle (5:36.74). 
-Azaliia Gabdrakipova in the 200 yard backstroke (2:19.38). 

The Lindsey Wilson men's team won with a score of 80-28 against the Tigers. Two Blue Raiders met NAIA provisional standard times in their races. 

Sophomore Max van Schagen clocked a provisional time of 48.42 in the 100-yard freestyle earning him second place in the event. Fabio Martin Rojo grabbed the win in the 500-yard freestyle with a provisional time of 4:47.01. 

Van Schagen also finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:02.79 time. Freshman Dario Soria topped the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.73 and paired it up with a win in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.26. Fellow freshman Clinton Eales won the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:17.77. The 400-yard IM was won by sophomore Jose Rivas who clocked in a 4:35.64. He also collected a win in the 200-yard IM, registering a 2:03.48. Chase Hickman grabbed first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.36. 
 
The Blue Raiders return to action Thursday, February 1 for the Mid-South Conference Championships which will take place in Kingsport, Tennessee.
