COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team remained perfect at home with a 76-70 victory over (RV) Bethel (Tenn.) Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.
The Blue Raiders (14-5, 2-1 MSC) outscored the Wildcats 27-17 in the fourth quarter to come away with the victory. Lucy Patterson recorded her sixth double-double of the season scoring a team-high 18 points while recording a team-high 11 rebounds. Amelia Hodges and Taylor Guess each scored 15 points while Jordyn Stephens added 11.
The two teams got off to a slow start as there was just one made field goal in the first two and a half minutes made by Fleming. Back-to-back baskets by Patterson increased the Lindsey Wilson lead to 6-0 with 6:34 to play in the first. The Blue Raiders led 10-4 before the Wildcats ended the quarter on a 10-2 run to lead 14-12.
Lindsey Wilson opened the second scoring the first four points to take a 16-14 lead. After a Bethel three gave the Wildcats a 17-16 lead, the Blue Raiders scored the next four points to lead 20-17. Bethel answered back scoring the next seven points to lead 24-20 with 4:31 to play in the half. The Blue Raiders trailed 28-24 before ending the first half on an 8-2 run to take a 32-30 lead.
Bethel opened the third quarter on a 5-2 run to take a 35-34 lead. After Guess gave Lindsey Wilson a 36-35 lead, the Wildcats rattled off a 7-2 run to take a 42-38 lead with 4:44 to play in the third. Natalie Gentry made it a two-point game before the Wildcats scored the next eight points to lead 50-40. The Blue Raiders would end the quarter on a 9-3 run sparked by back-to-back threes by Hodges to trim their deficit to 53-49 heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Wildcats led 58-53 before Guess scored five-straight points to tie the game with 5:39 to play. Bethel's Lauren Bryant put the Wildcats up 60-58 before the Blue Raiders went on a 12-0 run that lasted 2:06 and gave Lindsey Wilson a 70-60 lead with 2:57 remaining. The Wildcats scored the next five points to cut the Blue Raider lead in half. Lindsey Wilson closed out the game going 6-of-8 from the charity stripe over the last 1:27 to secure the 76-70 win.
