COLUMBIA, Ky. – Eight Lindsey Wilson wrestlers competed in the Blue Raider Open on Saturday at the Holloway Health and Wellness Center. Junior
Garrett Koestel led all the hometown grapplers with a third-place finish in the 141-pound weight division.
Koestel collected nine total team points for the Blue Raiders and earned a win by forfeit in the third-place match to secure his placement.
Elsewhere for Lindsey Wilson,
Obi Smith recorded a win by fall in his quarterfinal bout at 141 before falling into the consolation bracket, and
Drake Montelongo picked up a pin of his own at 149 for his lone victory on the day.
Sophomore
Nicholas Hejke collected the Blue Raiders' only other win during the tournament at 157, defeating Life's (Ga.) Enrique Santana by a 12-8 decision in the first round.
Lindsey Wilson is due back on the mat at 7 p.m. CST on Tuesday, January 30 to host No. 4 Campbellsville (Ky.) at Biggers Sports Center.
