FAIRMONT, W.VA – The Lindsey Wilson wrestling team finished runner-up at the Fairmont State Invitational on Saturday.
The Blue Raiders totaled 106.5 points and earned six podium finishes with two individual champions.
Conner Diamond and
Clarence Lee-Greene IV reached the final at 125 pounds,
Adrian Ayala captured the title at 141 pounds and
Niko Perovic finished first at 197 pounds.
Will George finished second at 141 pounds while
Cory Cannan placed third at 174 pounds. Alex Tabor who competed unattached finished sixth at 133 pounds.
Diamond earned a first-round bye and then picked up a 17-0 tech fall over Manchester's Mason Jones. In the semifinal, he recorded a second-period pin over Nic Allison from Kutztown. Lee-Greene pinned Hiram's Ian Fuentes in the first period then defeated Kutztown's Trent Thompson 13-6. Diamond and Lee-Greene double forfeited in the final.
Following a first round-bye, Ayala began his tournament with back-to-back pins over Belmont Abbey's Tanner Carson and Otterbein's Andrew Sas. He then picked up a 7-6 decision over Fairmont State's Ryan Martin in the semifinals. In the final, Ayala earned a 6-2 decision over Fairmont State's Aliazer Alicea.
Perovic recorded four pins enroute to his victory at 197 pounds. He opened his tournament with a second-period pin over Otterbein's Brandon Thomas then advanced to the semifinals with a first-period pin over Ayden Bishoff of Waynesburg. Perovic then pinned West Liberty's Keaton Grider and defeated Fairmont State's Dwayne Johnson in the final.
George began his day with a 7-1 decision over Kutztown's Cooper Price followed by a pin over teammate
Nicholas Hejke. He then picked up a 4-2 decision over Trine's Phil Burney and advanced to the final with a 16-2 major decision over Thomas More's Kailan Keith. George then fell to Kutztown's Bailey Gimbor 12-4 in the final.
Cannan earned an 8-2 decision John Horton of Kutztown then pinned Fairmont State's Tristan Ice. He then fell to Oliver Byerly 8-1 in the semifinals and then defeated Otterbein's Logan Cormell.
Tabor picked up a first-period pin over Fairmont State's Austin Brett before falling to Kutztown Javien Deleon. He then earned a 20-4 tech fall over Ohio Wesleyan's Robert Ross before falling to Lucas Talley.
The Blue Raiders are back in action for a Mid-South Conference dual at Cumberlands (Ky.).
