RICHMOND, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team defeated Marian (Ind.) 3-2 in the Gibson Bay Match Play championship match Tuesday at Gibson Bay Golf Course.

The Blue Raiders closed out the two-day event going 3-0 after defeating Cumberlands (Ky.) and Truett McConnell on Monday.

In the unique format, teams are made up of five players in a head-to-head competition. Each team match is made up of five points. In each individual match, the player with the fewest strokes on each hole wins that hole. The player who wins the most holes, wins the match.

Butpapaporn Sukterm defeated MacKendzie Dresbaugh 6&4. Sukterm won hole 11 and then increased her lead to 3 up after back-to-back wins on holes 13 and 14.  She went 4 up with a victory on hole one and clinched the match with wins on holes four and five.

Papatsara Niamrungrueang was defeated by Emma Weiler 4&3. Weiler opened the match with a win on hole 11 and went 3 up after wins on 14 and 15. Weiler took control of the match with wins on holes one, two and three.

Kayla Saunders dropped a close match to Keara Eder as Eder won 1 up. Eder won the first two holes before Saunders got a win on hole 14. Saunders tied the match on 17 before Eder won the next three holes. Eder went 4 up with a victory on hole five. Saunders rallied winning three of the next four holes to trim her deficit to one.

Tara Laverty won 2&1 against Maria Kennard. Laverty won hole 14 and Kennard tied the match on 15. Kennard went 1 up on with a victory on 18 before Laverty won two of the next three matches to go 1 up. Laverty went 2 up on hole six and held her lead for the remainder of the match.

Pitchayapa Pungpho defeated Hailey Kirkland 3&2. Pungpho went 2 up with wins on holes 16 and 17 while Kirkland won hole 18. Pungpho went 2 up after a win on hole two while Kirkand trimmed the lead back to one on hole 4. The two exchanged victories on holes six and seven. Pungpho then won two of the next three holes to take control of the match.
