WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – In a dual meeting between two of the Mid-South Conference's strongest programs, the Blue Raider women's swim team was narrowly bested by homestanding Cumberlands (Ky.) 121-150.
Lindsey Wilson turned in eight victories, nine provisional times, and one NAIA "A"-cut.
Maaike Broersma swam at the forefront of the Blue Raiders' efforts, locking down the lone automatic time with a win in the 100-yard backstroke. Her winning time of 56.24 is only 2.14 off the school record she set at last season's national championship.
Broersma continued her dominance in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in 12.80 seconds ahead of second place at 2:03.59, and in the 50-yard freestyle behind a time of 24.30. Both performances met NAIA provisional standards.
Natalia Gorska earned an individual victory in the 100-yard freestyle with a provisional mark of 55.26.
Kirsten de Goede topped the field in the 200-yard freestyle, also hitting a provisional standard of 1:59.86, and
Nathalie Medina rounded out Lindsey Wilson's individual wins in the 200-yard butterfly, logging a provisional time of 2:11.90. She went on to add another provisional time in the 500-yard freestyle.
Sara Motyl, following a solid showing last week at Midway (Ky.), collected two provisional standards in the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes, while
Natascha Evreinoff secured a provisional mark in the 100-yard butterfly.
Lindsey Wilson swept the day's relay races. The quartet of Broersma, Motyl, Evreinoff, and Gorska claimed top honors in the 200-yard medley relay, and the team of
Alejandra Martinez, Evreinoff, Medina, and Gorska outpaced the competition in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Blue Raiders return to the pool on Saturday, October 26 for the Bethel (Ind.) Quad Meet in Elkhart, Indiana with Aquinas (Mich.) and Indiana Wesleyan.
