CLINTON, S.C. – The Lindsey Wilson women's wrestling team finished third at the Blue Hose Challenge hosted by Presbyterian on Sunday.
The Blue Raiders tallied 83.5 points to finish third.
Callie Payton finished first at 117 pounds while
Alyssa Pinkston finished runner-up at 207 pounds. Presbyterian finished first with 303.5 points while Life was second with 110.5.
Payton won every match in the 117-pound bracket by tech fall. She started her tournament with a 10-0 victory over Allen's Stacy Pule and then defeated teammate
Jaelynn McIntosh 10-0. Payton faced another teammate in
Catherine Head defeating her 11-0. Payton ended her day with back-to-back 10-0 victories to finish first.
Pinkston pinned Allen's Janya Rolland in the first period. In the semifinals, she pinned Eve Jenkins from the Apprentice School in just 56 seconds. Pinkston was pinned in the finals by Maria Aiono from Presbyterian.
Alysa Archer finished fifth in the 103-pound bracket. She was defeated by Presbyterian's 10-0 in the semifinals and then fell to Mount Olive's Lillian Pendergast in the consolation semifinals. In the fifth-place match, Archer pinned Mount Olive's Emily Fleckenstein.
Payton Agnell finished fifth at 110 pounds. Agnell opened her tournament with a 10-0 loss to Chloe Dearwester from Presbyterian. She then pinned Kaia Stewart in the first period of her first consolation match. After falling in the consolation semis, Agnell earned fifth after an injury default.
Head started her tournament dropping a 3-0 decision to Charlee Shuler from Presbyterian before defeating Elizabeth Hollet from Huntingdon 12-2. After losing to Payton, she won her next two matches by injury default to finish third.
McIntosh finished sixth winning just one match at 117 pounds. Her lone win came against Hollet with an 11-0 tech fall.
Abigail Vanderheyden finished sixth at 124 pounds. Vanderheyden opened her tournament with a 10-0 loss to Laura Ruiz Diaz from Presbyterian. She then defeated teammate
Audrey Smith in her first consolation match. Vanderheyden then lost her next two matches to finish sixth.
