MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Lindsey Wilson women's wrestling team began its inaugural season Saturday at the Mount Olive Trojan Open.
Reagan Thomas (110),
Kori Campbell (138),
Josselinne Campos (145), and
India Page (180) each finished first in their respective weight classes.
Kamilah Brooks and
Abigail Vanderheyden reached the finals at 124 pounds where they took a double forfeit.
Thomas won the 110-pound bracket winning by tech fall in each round. She defeated Cumberlands' Kaylin Taylor by a 13-2 tech fall in the first round. She then picked up a 10-0 tech fall over Panther Creek's Sofia Ortiz-Rodriguez. In the semifinals, Thomas earned her third tech fall over Zainab Hijawi. She defeated Mount Olive's Ria Wright by an 18-7 tech fall in the finals.
After earning a bye in round one, Vanderheyden pinned Montreat's Shelby Sherman in the quarterfinals. She then pinned Randolph's Alanna Jennings in the semifinals to advance to the finals. Brooks recorded a fall over Southern Virginia's Makenna Dolt. She picked up a 13-2 tech fall over teammate
Audrey Smith. Brooks then defeated fellow Blue Raider
Sydney Bridenstine in the semifinals.
In the first round, Campbell recorded a fall over Gracie Blake from Southern Virginia. She recorded her second pin in the quarterfinals against Oriyana Castex from Cumberlands. Campbell recorded a first-period pin against Allen's Lyric Drumgoole to advance to the finals. She won a 7-0 decision over Cumberlands Annabelle Suto in the finals.
Campos pinned Cumberlands' Brianna Merryfield in just 18 seconds in round one. She advanced to the semifinals with a 10-0 tech fall over JhaMya Hill from Allen. Campos advanced to the finals pinning Ameilia Pranka in 47 seconds. She defeated teammate
Lexi Ritchie 8-1 in the finals.
After a bye in round one, Page pinned Presbyterian's Lexi Fornshell in 19 seconds in the quarterfinals. She then picked up a 10-0 tech fall over Newberry's Arianna Velarde before defeating Cumberlands' Saiheron Preciado-Meza 6-4 in the finals.
Ritchie earned a bye in round one, then pinned Cumberlands' Alivia Ming in the quarterfinals. She advanced to the finals recording a fall in 46 seconds over Montreat's Uriah Peters-Gutierrez.
Bridenstine finished third at 124 pounds. Bridenstine pinned Brewton-Parker's Adeline Harper in 27 seconds and then recorded her second fall in the quarterfinals over Teresa Canady. After falling to Brooks, she defeated Dolt in the consolation semifinals and again defeated Canady for third.
Bryanne Kaminsky finished third in the 138-pound bracket. She defeated Veronika Wilson with a 10-0 tech fall in round one. In the quarterfinals, she fell in a 6-0 decision to Cumberlands' Annabelle Suto. Kaminsky won her next two consolation matches by pin before finishing third by injury default.
Hayeni Costa finished third at 207 pounds. Costa had a bye in round one and then pinned Mount Olive's Andrea Smith in the quarterfinals. She dropped a 9-6 decision to Cumberlands' Destiny Marquez in the semifinals. Costa pinned teammate
Alyssa Pinkston in the consolation semifinals and then pinned Andrea Smith again in the third-place match.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Nov. 8 for the Life Duals in Marietta, Georgia.
