Women’s Basketball Heads to Rio Grande This Weekend to Compete in the Bevo Francis Classic

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team is traveling to Rio Grande, Ohio to compete in the Bevo Francis Classic on Friday and Saturday. 

The Blue Raiders (6-0) are looking to remain perfect on the season after just picking up a 55-53 victory over Berea College (Ky) Monday night. Claire Fleming led the Lindsey Wilson offense picking up her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor Guess and Saniyah Shelton also ended the night in double figures with 11, and 10 respectively. 

Lindsey Wilson is set to take on Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (Ind.) on the first day of the classic. The Pomeroys are off to a 5-1 start to the season falling 68-60 on Tuesday night to the University of Indianapolis (Ind.). The Pomeroys offense is led by Madison Fueger who averages 13.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game, Destiny Thomas who averages 13.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, as well as Diamond Bryant who averages 12.5 points and is the teams leading rebounder averaging 6.8 boards a game. The Blue Raiders and Pomeroys have met two times and Lindsey Wilson claimed both of the match-ups. 

On the second day of the classic, Lindsey Wilson will take on #10 Rio Grande (Ohio) who is off to a perfect start so far sitting at 4-0. The Red Storm, who defeated Rochester Christian (Mich.) on Saturday 107-67, will play their first game of the classic against Governors State (Ill.) on Friday. Rio Grande has 4 players averaging double figures on the season including Kaylee Darnell (25.0 ppg), Lexi Woods (15.8 ppg), Jasmine Jordan (13.8 ppg), and Marlee Grinstead (11.3 ppg). Jordan is making a big impact on the glass as well averaging a double-double with 12.0 rebounds per game. The Red Storm and Blue Raiders have competed against each other 12 times with Lindsey Wilson claiming nine and Rio Grande claiming three. 

The Blue Raiders will tip-off at 1 p.m. CT on Friday and 4 p.m. CT on Saturday.
