KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson men's swim team placed runner-up in the Mid-South Conference swimming championships, wrapping up the meet on Saturday at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
Head coach
Alicia Kemnitz was named the Men's Swimming Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career and seventh time overall, helping the Blue Raiders to their fifth consecutive top-two finish.
Lindsey Wilson shined in the evening's first event, the 1,650-yard freestyle, as
Fabio Martin Rojo's time of 16:04.71 led a trio of Blue Raider swimmers inside the top four with his second individual title of the weekend and third overall for the event.
Malte Ahrens and
Ethan Butler followed in second and fourth, respectively, each securing NAIA Provisional standard times along with Martin Rojo's.
In the 100-yard freestyle,
Max van Schagen locked up another all-conference finish with a third-best and NAIA provisional time of 45.82. His teammate
Jose Angel Rivas notched a provisional standard in the event as well, touching the wall at 47.89.
Dario Soria (200-yard backstroke; 1:51.69),
Clinton Eales (200-yard breaststroke; 2:05.75) and Ahrens (200-yard butterfly) each added third-place finished in their respective events and met provisional standards in the process.
The Blue Raiders ended the championship with a second-place showing in the 400-yard freestyle relay where they recorded their fifth all-conference relay of the weekend. Eales, Martin Rojo, Rivas, and van Schagen made up the relay with provisional standards on each of their legs.
The 67th Annual Men's Swimming and Diving National Championships are due up next for Lindsey Wilson on March 6-9 in Columbus, Georgia. National qualifiers will be released later this month.
