HENDERSON, Tenn. – Lindsey Wilson split a pair of one-run contests at (RV) Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) on Sunday afternoon in Mid-South Conference softball action. The Blue Raiders needed extra innings to clinch the first outing before another late rally by the hosts sealed the split.
Senior
Elizabeth Funk finished 4-for-7 on the day with two doubles and a run batted-in, while
Kendall Dailey and
Brooklynn Becker each contributed three hits for the visitors.
Game One | Lindsey Wilson 2, (RV) Freed-Hardeman 1 (8 Innings)
Freshman
Kayden Murray dealt her second complete-game of the weekend, surrendering one earned run and striking out nine Lions in the process. Though, it required an additional inning of work and a little magic from the offense to secure Murray her fourth win of the year.
After back-to-back scoreless frames started things off, the Blue Raiders were first on the board on an RBI-single by Dailey in the third.
From there, Lindsey Wilson clung to its 1-0 lead until the seventh inning when Freed-Hardeman managed to tie the game and even place the potential winning-run at third base. The Blue Raider defense remained poised, nevertheless, to force extra innings.
In the eighth,
Elizabeth Funk lined a one-out single down the left field line, then
Natalie Wandrie followed with a double to deep center field to plate Funk and push the Blue Raiders back in front.
The next half-inning, Murray, and the defense behind her worked around a couple of Lion hits to clinch the Blue Raiders' second extra-innings victory of the season.
Game Two | Lindsey Wilson 4, (RV) Freed-Hardeman 5
A four-run fifth inning by Freed-Hardeman proved to be the difference in game two. Lindsey Wilson scattered its four runs over the second, third, and fifth innings but ultimately lost its lead when the host's bats came to life late.
A sacrifice flyout by
Melaina Tucker in the second inning and an RBI-double from Wandrie in the third frame put the Blue Raiders ahead 2-0.
The Lions pushed one run across in the bottom of the fourth inning to trim the Lindsey Wilson lead in half before base-hits from Funk and
Kelsie Bostock expanded the Blue Raiders advantage up to 4-1.
Freed-Hardmen went on to tally four runs on four hits in the subsequent half-inning, and Lindsey Wilson could not find an answer.
Savannah Robbins and Murray each saw time in the circle for the Blue Raiders, combining for two strikeouts.
Lindsey Wilson continues Mid-South play at 3 p.m. CST on Friday, March 22 when (RV) Campbellsville (Ky.) visits Columbia for the "Battle of Highway 55."
