COLUMBUS, Ga. – Maaike Broersma captured her second career NAIA national title on Thursday afternoon to pace the Blue Raider women's swimming team's performance on day two of the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships.
The senior touched the wall at 23.25 to clinch the 50-yard freestyle and earn her second-ever All-American finish for the event. Freshman
Natalia Gorska came in close behind in the freestyle sprint, placing third with a mark of 23.49.
It is the first time since the 2017-18 season that Lindsey Wilson has seen multiple women garner individual All-American status in the same event.
The pair then teamed up with
Natascha Evreinoff and
Hannah Woyscheszik to finish third and break a six-year-old school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.41. Broersma provided the anchor leg of the relay and clocked another program-record effort of 23.03, besting her national title time by 0.22 that she set only hours earlier.
This is the women's program's fourth All-American 200-yard freestyle relay team.
Day three of the national championships begins at 8 a.m. CST on Friday morning with another batch of preliminary races.
Jordyn Minifie returns to the pool for the 400-yard individual medley,
Allie Rutherford and Evreinoff are slated to compete in the 100-yard butterfly,
Jaye Farthing and Woyscheszik will swim the 200-yard freestyle,
Sara Motyl and Rutherford are due for the 100-yard breaststroke, and Broersma and Gorska return for the 100-yard backstroke.
