COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Lindsey Wilson women's swimming team concluded its stay at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships on Saturday, finishing sixth overall and second among Mid-South Conference schools.
Senior
Maaike Broersma, again, made waves for the Blue Raiders by capturing her third individual national title of the week in the 200-yard backstroke. Her winning-time of 1:58.06 set another program record and she was named the NAIA Women's Swimmer of the Year for the second time in her career for her all-around efforts during the meet.
Broersma becomes the second swimmer in program history to win three national championships in the same season, joining Alexis Kessler in 2018. She also collected "Swim of the Meet" honors for her performance in the 100-yard backstroke on Friday.
Fellow senior
Allie Rutherford garnered All-American status in the 200-yard butterfly, posting a season-best time of 2:06.19 to finish fourth. This is the third career All-American award for Rutherford for the event.
The Blue Raiders final All-American finish of the week came in the 400-yard freestyle relay from
Hannah Woyscheszik,
Natascha Evreinoff,
Natalia Gorska, and Broersma. The quartet, who earlier in the meet clinched top-eight placements in the 200 and 800-yard freestyle relays, clocked in at 3:31.55 to end up fifth.
Lindsey Wilson also swam Gorska (10th, 52.55) in the 100-yard freestyle and
