COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team concludes its regular season this weekend with a non-conference series versus No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett. The Blue Raiders and the Grizzlies are meeting for the second time this season after previously going head-to-head in Lawrenceville back on February 9 and 10.
Georgia Gwinnett won both of the early-season matchups, 2-0 and 3-2, and has won eight of the last 10 meetings overall, including six by two or fewer runs.
Melaina Tucker and
Elizabeth Funk each batted 2-for-6 against the Grizzlies back in February. The latter of the two turned one of her hits into a double and actively leads the team with 14 hits in non-conference games this season.
In the circle,
Kayden Murray started for Lindsey Wilson in both of the previous outings. The freshman fired 10.2 total innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits while retiring 11 on strikes.
As a team, the Blue Raiders have won six consecutive non-conference games, hitting .304 during that span and dealing a .85 earned run average.
Georgia Gwinnett enters the weekend with a 25-13 overall record, having won three of its last four road games after losing its first five.
Kloey Goins paces the Grizzlies with 36 hits and 19 runs batted-in, and Lindzie Owen falls close behind with 30 hits, including two doubles and a team-high six triples. The junior is also a perfect 35-for-35 on stolen base attempts.
In the circle, Annalise Jarvis has tossed six shutouts en route to a .65 earned run average and a 13-4 record. The 2023 NAIA Pitcher of the Year worked a full seven innings against Lindsey Wilson in February and surrendered only two hits to go along with 14 strikeouts.
This weekend's series opens with a single game at 5 p.m. CST on Friday, April 26, then continues with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. CST on Saturday, April 27 at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.
