WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson archery team posted a second-place finish at the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Archery Championship Saturday at the UC All-Purpose Field.
The Blue Raiders totaled 143 points to finish second. Lindsey Wilson earned 16 total medals with four gold, eight silver and four bronze. Cumberlands won the championship with 221 points.
Lindsey Wilson finished second in the overall season standings which included the 3D and Indoor Championships as well. Cumberlands finished first overall in the team standings after winning all three events. Pikeville finished third in the standings.
Following the conclusion of the event, the MSC All-Conference teams and honors were announced.
T Sanchez (men's recurve),
Anastacia Godman (women's barebow),
Parker Braddock (men's compound) and
Gus Burtts (men's fixed pins) all earned First Team All-Conference honors.
Austin Taylor earned Second Team All-Conference honors in men's compound.
The Blue Raiders earned three gold medals in the head-to-head matches on Saturday. Sanchez took gold in the men's recurve. He earned the top-seeded in qualifying and defeated Cumberlands' Roman Carpenter 6-0 in the quarterfinals. Sanchez defeated teammate AJ Shagool in the semifinals 6-0. He faced another Blue Raider in the final defeating
Zach Jackson 6-0 to win the conference championship.
Braddock defeated
Bronson Ormes in the first round men's compound 142-136. In the quarterfinals, he defeated teammate
Ken Parsley 144-143. Braddock advanced to the finals with a victory over Cumberlands' Blaine Kostrzewski. In the finals, he defeated Cumberlands' Jared Laux 144-142.
Godman captured the final gold medal for the Blue Raiders on Saturday in women's barebow. She defeated Campbellsville's McKenzie McGee 6-2 and Campbellsville's Rachel Ray 6-2 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Godman defeated Cumberlands' Kennedy Sumpter 6-2. She won gold defeating Pikeville's Maggie Brensinger 6-2.
Jackson opened his competition with a 6-2 victory over Truett Molands from Kentucky Christian. He defeated Cumberlands' Reed Goodpaster 6-5 in the quarterfinals and defeated Cumberlands' Clay Weaver 6-5 in the semifinals.
Burtts finished runner-up in men's fixed pins. He defeated
TJ Ramsey 135-119 and Cumberlands' Matthew England 136-135 in the quarterfinals. Burtts advanced to the finals with a 137-136 victory over Cumberlands' Brandon Durham. In the finals, he fell to Cumberlands' Connor Mullis.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Wednesday May 15 for the USA Archery Outdoor National Championships in Statesboro, Georgia
