No.11 Women’s Tennis Heads to Tennessee for Conference Play

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The No.11-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team will travel to Tennessee to resume conference play. They will face (RV) Bethel (Tenn.) at 1 p.m. CT this Thursday at the Thompson Tennis Complex.

The Blue Raiders are 13-2 overall this season and 4-0 in conference play, most recently winning 6-1 against Lewis-Clark State. The ladies dominated in doubles as they only dropped two games in all three matches. Anastasiia Vorobiova and Darija Mladenovic alongside Mariangeles Mateu and Heyka Rodriguez bageled their opponents while #3 doubles Anastasiia Ivanchenko and Martina Cortal won 6-2.

Three ranked Blue Raiders head into the next game with big win streaks. Mateu has a 10-match winning streak while Ivanchenko and Mladenovic are nine games unbeaten.

Mateu was selected the Mid-South Conference women's tennis Player of the Week. The freshman from Valencia, Spain, went 4-0 last week to help the Blue Raiders improve their winning streak to 10 matches and remain undefeated in conference play. She joins teammates Ivanchenko – February 26 – and Vorobiova – March 25 – who were recognized as Players of the Week earlier this season.

In the head-to-head record against the Wildcats the Blue Raiders have total domination as they lead 12-0 in program history. Last time both teams faced each other, Lindsey Wilson took the win with a 4-2 score. The ladies will aim to keep both unbeaten streaks alive in this matchup.

The match against Bethel is set to start with the doubles teams at 1 p.m. CT on Thursday at the Thompson Tennis Complex.
