MOBILE, Ala. - The Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team defeated McPherson 4-1 in the first round of the NAIA National Championships on Monday.
The 15th-seeded Blue Raiders took the doubles point with Jan Silhavy and Miquel Perez taking the first match with a 6-2 win. Lucas Marques and Aldo Randazzo secured the point with a 6-3 win on court two, leaving Jaume Barcelo and Anatoliy Voloshyn's match unfinished.
The 18th-seeded Bulldogs equalized the score by grabbing their first and only point on court one. Silhavy lost in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 against Michael Beltran.
Lindsey Wilson clinched the match by winning on courts six, four, and two respectively in that order. Voloshyn notched the first singles point for the Blue Raiders with a double 6-2, 6-2 score against Daniel Marcano. Marques obtained the next point on court four with a 7-5, 6-2 over Martin Millos. He was down 5-2 in the first set, but managed to come back without giving up a game. Finally, Barcelo locked in the clinch with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court two over Marcus Nardy.
With the first-round win on Tuesday, the Blue Raiders will look for an upset at 9:00 a.m. CT. on Wednesday, May 15 in the second round as they face No. 2 seed Tennessee Wesleyan.
