COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's swim team solidified a season-opening victory on Saturday at the Dr. Dillery Fall Frenzy, topping the field of six teams by over 400 points.
Sergio Ybarra produced a dominant day in the pool with three individual wins, two NAIA provisional marks, and a leg in two of the Blue Raiders' three triumphant relays.
All told, Lindsey Wilson finished five-for-five for the weekend in relays and racked up four provisional standards on the Frenzy's final day.
The Blue Raiders opened the morning session with a three-second victory in the 200-yard medley relay.
Dario Soria,
Dan Spinola,
Jose Rivas, and
Max van Schagen teamed up to touch the wall at 1:37.25.
Ybarra followed with the win in the 400-yard individual medley, recording one of his two provisional times. He picked up the second in the afternoon, placing first in the 1,650-yard freestyle. The freshman's third individual win of the day came in the 200-yard butterfly.
Spinola, another Lindsey Wilson freshman, earned a winning-provisional mark of 58.15 in the 100-yard breaststroke, and van Schagen claimed top honors in the 100-yard freestyle with a provisional time of 48.00.
Soria collected a pair of individual wins, sweeping the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events. He then joined Ybarra,
Ethan Butler, and
Akram Nejjar to take first in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Lindsey Wilson's last win of the day took place in the 400-yard freestyle relay from the team of Ybarra, Nejjar, van Schagen, and
Clinton Eales.
The Blue Raiders ended the weekend with 14 total wins, plus five second-place finishes and four third-place efforts.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 12 p.m. CST on Saturday, October 12 at Midway (Ky.) for a tri-meet with the Eagles and Indiana Wesleyan.
