COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's swim team won all but one event on Saturday, finishing second overall in the season-opening Dr. Dillery Fall Frenzy at the Holloway Natatorium.
Maaike Broersma collected three individual wins and three NAIA provisional standards to pace the Blue Raiders' efforts. She also swam a leg in each of Lindsey Wilson's three winning relays.
Her first victory of the day came alongside
Sara Motyl, Kirsten de Gode, and Natalie Gorska in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet touched the wall at 1:48.73, almost five seconds ahead of Tennessee Southern in second place.
Broersma continued her day with wins in the 100-yard butterfly, – 59.52 – 100-yard backstroke, – 57.66 – and 200-yard backstroke – 2:06.45. All of her marks met provisional standards.
Motyl made a mark of her own in the breaststroke events, sweeping the 100 and 200-yard races with a set of provisional times, 1:08.53 and 2:32.91, respectively. She also locked in a provisional mark of 1:01.32 in the 100-yard butterfly, placing fourth.
Gorska earned the top place in the 100-yard freestyle, meeting the provisional standard with a time of 54.57, while de Goede snatched a win in the 200-yard freestyle.
Nathalie Medina made waves with a trio of provisional-time victories, most notably in the 1,650-yard freestyle where she bested the field by 45 seconds and hit the wall at 18:28.95. The freshman's other wins came in the 400-yard individual medley – 4:49.39 – and the 200-yard butterfly – 2:13.90.
Medina, along with Broersma, Gorska, and de Goede made up Lindsey Wilson's final two relay wins in the 800 and 400-yard freestyle relays.
The Blue Raiders concluded the weekend a perfect five-for-five in relays en route to 17 total wins. Lindsey Wilson also secured two second-place finishes and five third-place finishes.
Next on the schedule for Lindsey Wilson is a tri-meet at Midway (Ky.) with the Eagles and Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday, October 12.
