LEBANON, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team dropped a Mid-South Conference dual 31-18 to No. 24 Cumberland (Tenn.) Wednesday at Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena.
With the loss, the Blue Raiders fall to 7-2 in duals and are 1-1 in the MSC. Lindsey Wilson won three matches in the dual while the Phoenix came away with seven victories.
Chase Ayers (No. 20 at 125 pounds) opened the dual with a 12-3 major decision over Truth Vesey. Ayers took control of the match jumping out to a 9-3 lead in the first period.
Alex Tabor pinned Aslan Nadeau in just 55 seconds at 133 pounds giving Lindsey Wilson a 10-0 lead. Cumberland then won the next four weight classes to take the lead. Sammy Shires earned a 12-8 decision over
Drake Montelongo at 141 pounds to make it 10-3. Victor Guzman (No. 15 at 149) pinned
Adrian Ayala (No. 12 at 149) with five seconds remaining in the third period to cut the Blue Raider lead to 10-9.
The Cumberland run continued as Ellis Otting pinned
Nicholas Hejke in the second period at 157 pounds to give the Phoenix a 15-10 advantage. Eli Clemmons increased the Phoenix lead to 20-10 with a 19-2 tech fall over
Brandon Irigoyen.
Will George earned a 2-0 decision over Cameron Nesbitt at 174 pounds to cut the Cumberland lead to 20-13. The Phoenix clinched the victory with back-to-back pins.
Tony Rogers closed out the dual with a 16-0 tech fall over Evan Dixon at 285 pounds.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Friday when they travel to No. 7 Campbellsville (Ky.) for the Battle of Highway 55 at 6 p.m. CT.
