RICHMOND, Ky. – The No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team opened their Spring season with a narrow 4-3 loss to NCAA Division I Eastern Kentucky University on Friday morning at the William F. Galtney Tennis Center.

The Blue Raiders battled valiantly, claiming three singles victories but falling short in doubles play, which ultimately decided the match.

In singles, Lindsey Wilson showcased their strength with standout performances. Aina Domingo Bernabeu dominated on court one with a 6-2, 6-0 win over EKU's Ceylin Ipek. Anastasiia Ivanchenko followed up with a convincing 6-3, 6-4 victory against Zhansaya Bakytzhan on court four. Mayra Gisone secured the team's third point with a hard-fought 7-6, 6-2 triumph over Anastas Cherniakova on court five.

Despite these strong efforts, EKU picked up wins on courts two, three, and six. Anastasiia Vorobiova battled Sasha Parkhomenko to three sets but ultimately fell 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Mariangeles Mateu lost 6-1, 6-0 to Marilou Cote on court three, while Heyka Rodriguez came up just short in a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 thriller against Izem Elif Olcer on court six.

Doubles play proved decisive, with EKU sweeping two of the three matches to secure the doubles point. The Blue Raiders showed glimpses of their potential but couldn't overcome the Colonels' doubles strength.

The ladies will be back on court on Friday, January 31 for the ITA National Indoor Championships in Fulton, MO.
