Men’s Wrestling Competes at Missouri Valley Invitational

MARSHALL, Mo. – The Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team wrapped up competition at the Missouri Valley Invitational Saturday at the Burns Athletic Center.

The Blue Raiders tallied 14 points as a team to finish in 44th. Alex Tabor and Drake Montelongo recorded three victories while Chris Morales earned a pair of wins. Brandon Irigoyen and Cale Johnson each picked up a win.

Tabor opened competition in the 133-pound bracket with a first-period pin over Zeke Wheeler from Oklahoma Wesleyan. In the second round, he earned a 16-15 decision over Avila's Tyler Johnson. Tabor suffered his first loss to Saint Mary's (Kan.) Freddy Barajas (No. 5 at 133 pounds) 24-10. In his first consolation match, he earned a 10-9 decision over Montana State-Northern's Caleb Morales. Tabor's tournament came to an end when he was pinned by Arizona Christian's Jason Ramirez.

Montelongo picked up an 8-2 decision in the preliminary round of the 141-pound bracket over Wyatt Gardner of Friends. He then earned an 18-0 tech fall over St. Thomas' Keegan Seaver. Montelongo suffered his first loss in the second round dropping a 5-1 decision to Cumberlands' Eli Peyton. He then defeated Gardner again 11-5 before falling to Tristan Browne from Doane.

Morales started his tournament in the 174-pound bracket with a first-period pin of Dakota Wesleyan's Kaleb Bigelow (No. 23 at 174 pounds. He then earned a 7-2 decision over Sebastian Hutchinson. Morales lost his next two matches ending his tournament.

Irigoyen fell in his first match in the 165-pound bracket to Blaine Christo from Morningside 19-4. He picked up an 8-6 decision over Cornerstone's Jaden Vanderwall before falling to Briar Cliff's Jackson Balmer.

Johnson dropped an 8-7 decision in his first match in the 184-pound bracket to Ottawa's Spencer Rochelle. In his first consolation match he defeated Wayland Baptist's Jaykob Mills 11-3. Johnson's tournament came to and end against Oklahoma Wesleyan's Carter Manley.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Friday at 7 p.m. CT at Biggers Sports Center for a Mid-South Conference dual against Midway (Ky.) on Senior Night.
