FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Lindsey Wilson women's wrestling team finished eighth at the Warrior Open Saturday at Indiana Tech Warrior Park.
The tournament was separated into two brackets Maximus and Pancake.
India Page finished second in the Maximus bracket while
Catherine Head finished runner-up in the Pancake bracket. Six other Blue Raiders finished in the top eight of their respective weight classes.
As a team, Lindsey Wilson totaled 128 points to finish eighth. Life posted the highest team total with a score of 247 while Baker was third with 212.5 points.
Page (No. 3 in NAIA at 180 pounds) opened her tournament with a second-period pin of Ottawa's Siara Arrington. In the quarterfinals, she earned a 10-0 tech fall over America Lopez (No. 12 at 180 pounds) from William Penn. Page advanced to the finals with a 4-1 decision over Life's Margaret Graham (No. 7 at 180 pounds). She was pinned in the finals by Larissa Gallo who was wrestling unattached from NCAA North Central.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Head pinned Campbellsville's Brittney Vincens to advance to the quarterfinals. She then recorded a first-period pin over Alexis Hart-Butcher from Adrian. In the semifinals, Head earned her third-straight pin against Zoe Shariq from Baker. Head fell in the finals 14-1 to Tola Aluko from the Purdue Wrestling Club.
Alyssa Archer finished fourth at 103 pounds in the Pancake Bracket. She pinned Life's Macie Anderson and pinned Kellie Kennedy from Otterbein to advance to the semifinals. Archer fell in the semifinals 18-7. She was pinned by Callie Helton from Baldwin Wallace in the third-place match.
Alyssa Pinkston posted a fifth-place finish in the Pancake Bracket at 207 pounds. Pinkston opened her tournament with a 10-0 tech fall over Faith Spicer from Ottawa. She then pinned Baker's Kara Pope (No. 14 at 207 pounds) in the quarterfinals. Pinkston was pinned by West Liberty's Jamie Sharpton in the semifinals and was pinned by Spicer in the consolation semifinals. In the fifth-place match, she pinned Trine's Ashton Francis in 1:19.
Reagan Thomas (No. 10 at 110 pounds) earned a fifth-place finish in the 110-pound Maximus Bracket. Thomas opened with an 11-0 tech fall over Ottawa's Aynsley Fink (No. 19 at 110 pounds). Thomas was pinned by Morgan Turner in the quarterfinals dropping her to the consolation bracket. In her first consolation match, she earned a 13-2 tech fall over Nia Avelino (No. 16 at 110 pounds). Thomas defeated Kendall Moe 9-4 in the fifth-place match.
Heyani Costa (No. 9 at 207 pounds) finished fifth in the Maximus Bracket at 207. Costa dropped her first match to Ottawa's Kena Leonard (No. 11 at 207 pounds) 7-4. She earned back-to-back pins in the in her first two consolation rounds over Jasmine Adiniwin and Phoebe Burt. In the consolation semifinals, she dropped a 9-6 decision to Missouri Valley's Aniya Herbin. Costa pinned Cumberlands' Destiny Marquez in the fifth-place match.
Callie Payton (No. 12 at 117 pounds) finished seventh in the 117-pound Maximus Bracket. Payton earned a 10-1 decision over Life's Jasmine Godinez in her first match and fell to William Penn's Zao Estrada (No. 2 at 117 pounds) in the quarterfinals. She fell to Alicia Frank (No. 15 at 117 pounds) from Providence in her first consolation match. Payton picked up a 12-11 decision over Irma Retano (No. 13 at 117 pounds) to finish seventh.
Kori Campbell (No. 7 at 138 pounds) posted a seventh-place finish in the Maximus Bracket at 138 pounds. Campbell opened with a pin over Caden Collett from Huntingdon and then earned a 13-9 decision over Providence's Kailey Rees. She fell in the quarterfinals 10-0 to Taina Fernandez 10-0 and lost 10-0 to Reagan Gallaway (No. 5 at 138 pounds) from Hastings. Campbell defeated Gabriella Perez (No. 9 at 138 pounds) 2-1 to earn seventh.
The Blue Raiders return to action on Saturday, February 1 when they host the Lindsey Wilson Women's Open at the Doris and Bob Holloway Health and Wellness Center.
