Men’s Wrestling Goes Unbeaten at Hawk Duals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -  The Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team went a perfect 4-0 at the Hawk Duals on Friday at Garrett Coliseum.
The Blue Raiders defeated NCAA Division III Huntingdon (Ala.), NCAA Division III Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Montreat (N.C.) and Truett McConnell to finish first overall.

Lindsey Wilson 38 – Huntingdon 12
The Blue Raiders got off to a fast start winning the first six weight classes with three tech falls, one pin and one decision to lead 30-0. Clarence Lee-Green IV (No. 14 in the NAIA at 125 pounds) earned a 15-0 tech fall over Nicholas Nguyen. Alex Tabor pinned Cole Blalock in the second period increasing the lead to 11-0. Drake Montelongo recorded a second period pin over Thomas Gammill at 141 pounds. Adrian Ayala (No. 12 at 149 pounds) picked up a 15-0 tech fall. Nicholas Hejke earned an 11-5 decision at 157 pounds while Brandon Irigoyen won 18-3 at 165 pounds.

Huntingdon won its first of two matches at 174 pounds with a pin in the first period to make it 30-6. Will George then earned a 15-0 tech fall over Nick Kendrick at 184 pounds increasing the lead to 35-8. Huntingdon's final win came via pin at 197 pounds. Tony Rogers closed out the dual with a 7-1 decision at heavyweight.

Lindsey Wilson 28 – Wisconsin-Stevens Point 20
The Blue Raiders opened with back-to-back tech falls at 125 and 133 pounds to lead 10-0. Lee-Green defeated Austin Gray 15-0 and Tabor earned a 19-4 victory over Aiden Fonder. Riese Thornberry (No. 19 in NCAA Division III at 141 pounds) pinned Montelongo to make it 10-6. Ayala picked up an 18-3 tech fall over Maddox Rye at 149 pounds while Hejke earned a 15-3 major decision over Connor Schenian at 157 pounds increasing the Blue Raider lead to 19-6.

Wisconsin-Stevens Point earned a 7-0 decision at 165 pounds to trim the deficit to 19-9. George pinned Carson Trotzer (No. 10 in NCAA Division III at 174 pounds) in the second period to increase the lead to 25-9. Wisconsin-Stevens Point picked up a tech fall at 184 pounds and a pin at 197 pounds to make it 25-20. Rogers clinched the match for Lindsey Wilson with a 5-2 decision at 285 pounds.

Lindsey Wilson 44 – Montreat 6
The match began with back-to-back forfeits giving the Blue Raiders a 12-0 lead. Montreat then picked up an 8-6 decision at 141 pounds. Ayala recorded a first period pin at 149 pounds while Irigoyen earned a 16-1 tech fall at 157 to increase the Lindsey Wilson lead to 23-3. The Cavalier won their only other match at 165 pounds. The Blue Raiders closed the dual with four-straight victories including two pins, a tech fall and a major decision.

Lindsey Wilson 49 – Truett McConnell 0
The Blue Raiders dominated the match winning every weight class with four pins, two major decisions, two decisions, one tech fall and one forfeit. George earned a 4-2 decision over a ranked William Parker (No. 23 at 184 pounds).

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on Saturday for the Hawk Classic Open beginning at 9 a.m. CT at Garrett Coliseum.
