Women’s Wrestling Finishes Runner-Up at Red Lady Duals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's wrestling team went 2-1 to finish second at the Red Laday Duals Friday at Garrett Coliseum.
The Blue Raiders defeated Montreat (N.C.) and Central Methodist (Mo.) to win the NAIA Bracket and advance to the final where they fell to NCAA Division I Presbyterian (S.C.).

Lindsey Wilson 43 – Montreat 4
Montreat opened the match with a 12-10 decision at 103 pounds for its only win. Lindsey Wilson closed out the dual winning the final nine weight classes with three forfeits, three pins and three tech falls. Following back-to-back forfeits at 110 and 117 pounds, Sydney Bridenstine (No. 18 in NAIA at 124 pounds) pinned Shelby Sherman at 124 pounds to give the Blue Raiders a 16-3 lead.  Abigail Vanderheyden and Ta'Jai Broadnex earned back-to-back first period pins at 131 and 138 pounds, respectively.

Lindsey Wilson recorded tech falls in three of the final four weight classes and had one forfeit victory. Josseline Campos (No. 6 at 145 pounds) picked up a 10-0 tech fall over Uriah Peters-Gutierrez to increase the Lindsey Wilson advantage to 30-3. Lexi Ritchie (No. 11 at 145 pounds) earned a 12-1 tech fall at 160 pounds while India Page (No. 2 at 180 pounds) recorded a 12-0 tech fall at 180 pounds.

Lindsey Wilson 34 – Central Methodist 9
The Blue Raiders got off to a quick start winning the first four matches to take an 18-1 lead. Alyssa Archer opened the dual with a pin in the second period over Gabriella Cedeno at 103 pounds. Following a forfeit at 110 pounds, Callie Payton (No. 10 at 117 pounds) pinned Victoria Nunez at 117 pounds. Kamilah Brooks (No. 10 at 124 pounds) earned a 6-4 decision over Allison Hynes (No. 16 at 124 pounds).

Corinne McClure (No. 16 at 131 pounds) gave Central Methodist its first win of the match with a tech fall at 131 pounds to trim the Lindsey Wilson lead to 19-5. The Blue Raiders finished strong winning four of the final five matches. Kori Campbell (No. 7 at 138 pounds) earned a 6-0 decision over Lilly Gough (No. 13 at 138 pounds). Ritchie picked up a decision over Mina Himmel at 145 pounds while Campos picked up a 10-0 tech fall at 160 pounds. Page recorded a 10-0 tech fall over Grace Timmons (No. 20 at 180 pounds). The Eagles closed out the dual with a 10-5 decision at 207 pounds.

Lindsey Wilson 21 – Presbyterian 23
Presbyterian opened the match with a 13-4 decision at 103 pounds to lead 3-1. Reagan Thomas (No. 12 at 110 pounds) gave the Blue Raiders a 5-3 lead with a 10-0 tech fall at 110 pounds. The Blue Hose picked up victories at 117 and 124 pounds to lead 11-6. Brooks earned an 8-0 decision at 131 pounds and Campbell picked up a forfeit victory at 138 to give Lindsey Wilson 14-11 advantage.

The Blue Hose jumped back in front 16-14 after Madeline Kubicki (No. 6 in NCAA at 145 pounds) pinned Broadnex. Campos tied the match with a 15-6 decision over Isabella Gretzinger at 160 pounts. Page gave the Blue Raiders a 21-18 lead with a 12-2 tech fall over Henlee Haynes (No. 11 in NCAA at 180 pounds). In the decisive match, Maria Aiono (No. 13 in NCAA at 207 pounds) pinned Pinkston to clinch the victory for Presbyterian.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday for the Red Lady Open at 9 a.m. CT at Garrett Coliseum.
