Saunders Named MSC Offensive Player of the Week for Third Time This Season

COLUMBIA, Ky. –  Lindsey Wilson student-athlete Davontaye Saunders has been selected as the Mid-South Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Saunders, of Eminence, Kentucky, earns his fourth career weekly honor and third this season after rushing for 207 yards on 17 carries with four touchdowns in the Blue Raiders' 62-13 victory against Cumberlands (Ky.).

The junior averaged 12.2 yards per carry in the win and went over 150 yards for the fourth straight game. Saunders recorded 129 yards and had three touchdowns on five carries in the first quarter. Two of his touchdowns in the first quarter came on the first play of the drive, including his longest run of the day for 61 yards.

Saunders became just the fourth different rusher in program history to run for over 200 yards. His four rushing touchdowns are tied for the second-most in a game in program history.

Saunders also caught three passes for 59 yards and a touchdown for 36 yards. He tallied 266 all-purpose yards, which are the third-most in program history.

This marks the fifth time this season a Blue Raider has earned MSC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Saunders and the Blue Raiders return to action on Saturday, traveling to No. 10 Campbellsville (Ky.) in The Battle of Highway 55 at 12:30 p.m. CT.
