Women’s Wrestling Posts Eight Top-Three Finishes at Tiffin Open

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Lindsey Wilson women's wrestling team opened its season with a strong showing at the Tiffin University Open Saturday at the Heminger Center.

Callie Payton (No. 8 at 117 pounds) and Grace Lashinsky each reached the finals of the 117-pound bracket, taking a double forfeit. Payton opened her tournament with a 10-0 tech fall over Otterbein's (Ohio) Rylee Touhallsky. She then earned her second 10-0 tech fall over Georgetown's Camara Carter. Payton earned a hard-fought 10-9 decision against Carleigh Czerneski (No. 6 in NCAA at 117 pounds) from Adrian (Mich.). She earned her third tech fall 11-0 in the semifinals against teammate Jaden Evans 11-0.

Lashinsky made her way to the final in the 117-pound bracket, not allowing a single point to her opponents. She earned a 10-0 tech fall over Rio Grande's (Ohio) Lyndyn Gibbs and another 10-0 tech fall over Defiance's (Ohio) Maddisan Buccholz. Lashinsky then earned back-to-back pins over teammates Kalliscya Gardner and Rodiat Adeduntan to advance to the finals.
Lexie Ritchie (No. 9 at 138 pounds) and Brielle Bibla (No. 19 at 138 pounds) double forfeited in the finals at 138 pounds. Ritchie opened her tournament with three straight pins. She pinned Trine's (Ind.) Madison Small and Tiffin's (Ohio) Alaysia Coleman both in the first round. Ritchie picked up her third pin over Raegan Briggs of Otterbein in the quarterfinals. Ritchie punched her ticket to the finals with a 6-4 overtime victory over Tiffin's Sophia Antonio.

Bibla reached the finals at 138 pounds with four pins, all coming in the first period. She needed just 26 seconds to pin Mount Union's Abby Khlem and just 1:37 to pin Adrian's Mason Harsch. Bibla then pinned Cumberlands' Mary Jane Porter (No. 12 at 131 pounds) in the quarterfinals. She then pinned Rio Grande's Annalist Ortez Pierce in just 22 seconds in the semifinals. Campbell was defeated in the finals 8-6 in overtime by Hayden Newberg of Indiana Tech.

Kori Campbell (No. 8 at 145 pounds) finished runner-up in the 145-pound bracket. Campbell opened her tournament with back-to-back tech falls over Megan Melnyk of Rochester Christian and Mount Union's Nadirra Matlock. In the quarterfinals, she earned a 10-3 overtime victory over Indiana Tech's Madalaine Menchaca. Campbell picked up a 7-6 decision over Alivia Ming (No. 3 at 145 pounds) from Cumberlands.

Hayeni Costa (No. 4 at 207 pounds) and Faith Allen both reached the finals of the 207-pound bracket. Costa opened her tournament with a 14-4 tech fall against Kamil Johnson and pinned Michela Clifford of Indiana Tech in 49 seconds. She advanced to the finals with a 15-4 tech fall over Allison Ott of Mount Union.

Allen pinned Hiram's Emily Lorenzon in the first period and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 5-2 overtime victory over Georgetown's Kaylyn Lawson. In the quarterfinals, she pinned Indiana Tech's Ellen Ashabranner in the first period and reached the finals with a 7-3 overtime victory against Madasyn Frisbie of Rochester Christian.

Havana Hampl finished sixth at 110 pounds. Hampl earned an 8-2 overtime victory over Mia Sharp of Alma before falling in a 14-12 decision to Rochester Christian's (Mich.) Julia Snyder. Hampl then rattled off three straight wins in the consolation rounds. She earned an 11-0 tech fall over Indiana Tech's Izabella Hall and a 6-0 decision against Rio Grande's Haley Williams. Hampl earned an 11-4 decision over Lillian Kendall before losing to West Liberty's (W.Va.) Mariah Mills. She and Payton Agnell (double forfeited in the fifth-place match.

Agnell opened her tournament with a 10-0 tech fall over Kendall and then picked up a 5-0 decision over Williams in the quarterfinals. She then dropped her next two matches by injury default and forfeit.

Evans opened her tournament with back-to-back pins against Indiana Tech's Anastasia Smith and Rei Vlahov of Point Park (Pa.). In the quarterfinals, she earned a 10-4 overtime victory over Cumberlands' Kaylin Taylor before falling to Payton in the semifinals. After pinning Gardner in the consolation semifinals, she earned a 4-3 decision over Gibbs to place third.

Gardner finished sixth at 117 pounds. She pinned West Liberty's Trinity Howard in the first period before being pinned by Lashinsky in the second period. She then earned a 14-2 tech fall over teammate Audrey Smith and pinned Howard for a second time. Evans pinned Gardner in the semifinals and double forfeited the fifth-place match with Adeduntan.

Jelia Ramos placed fifth at 131 pounds. Ramos opened her tournament with back-to-back tech falls, defeating Davenport's Faith Burgess 14-2 and 10-0 against Annette Oberhauser of Mount Union (Ohio). In the quarterfinals, she earned her third tech fall 10-0 over Indiana Tech's Kendya Pierre-Louis. Ramos fell 11-4 in overtime of the semifinals to Sophia Slaughter and was pinned by Mount Union's Abigal Mozden in the consolation semifinals. Ramos pinned Alexis Nicholas in just 1:08 to secure fifth place.

Malloy Ladd placed fifth at 180 pounds. Ladd opened her tournament with a pin of Hiram's (Ohio) Alazhandra Williams late in the second period. In the quarterfinals, Ladd was defeated in overtime 10-6 by Alma's Gabriella Allen. She then recorded back-to-back pins in the consolation rounds against Grace Murphy of Otterbein and Williams. Ladd dropped a 6-1 decision in the consolation semifinals and pinned Point Park's Payton Moyer in 47 seconds to earn fifth.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday, November 8, at the Adrian College Duals in Adrian, Michigan.
