Davontaye Saunders has been selected as the Mid-South Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Saunders, of Eminence, Kentucky, earns his fifth career weekly honor and fourth this season after rushing for a program-record 299 yards on 14 carries with three touchdowns in the Blue Raiders' 56-37 victory against Cumberland (Tenn.).
The junior averaged 21.4 yards per carry in the win and went over 200 yards for the second time this season. Saunders' first two carries of the game tallied 73 and 69 yards and also went for two touchdowns. Saunders also surpassed the single-season rushing record in the win and is now at 1,410 yards this season.
Saunders currently has the second-most rushing touchdowns in a season with 17 and ranks fifth in the NAIA. His total yards currently rank second, and his 156.7 yards per game lead the NAIA.
This marks the sixth time this season a Blue Raider has earned MSC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Saunders and the Blue Raiders return to action on Saturday, traveling to McKenzie, Tennessee, to take on Bethel (Tenn.) in the regular season finale at 1:30 p.m. CT.
