No. 8 Football Travels to Bethel to Close Out Regular Season

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team closes out its regular season on Saturday with a trip to McKenzie, Tennessee to take on Bethel (Tenn.) at 1:30 p.m. CT at Walter Butler Stadium.
 
With a win on Saturday, the Blue Raiders (8-1, 4-1 Mid-South Conference) clinch a share of the MSC regular season title. Lindsey Wilson wins the conference championship outright with a win and a Campbellsville (Ky.) loss at Georgetown (Ky.) on Saturday.
 
The Blue Raiders defeated Cumberland (Tenn.) 56-37 last week on Senior Day.  Lindsey Wilson totaled a season-high 605 yards of offense in the victory. The Blue Raiders ran for a season-high 385 yards and surpassed 300 rushing yards for a third game. Reigning NAIA Offensive Player of the Week Davontaye Saunders broke the program record for rushing yards in a game with 299 yards. Saunders ran the ball 14 times and also recorded three touchdowns. He also surpassed the single-season rushing yards record. Tate Rice was 11-of-15 for 220 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. The Blue Raiders forced four turnovers with three interceptions. Cameron Rankins and Kevin Wilson each had 12 tackles. Lee Levingston, Chevis Elliott, and Kelson McKinney each recorded an interception.
 
Lindsey Wilson ranks eighth in the NAIA, averaging 44.8 points per game and 12th in yards per game with 460.6. The Blue Raiders rank seventh in the nation, averaging 223.7 rushing yards per game.  Defensively, the Blue Raiders allow just 19.0 points per game, ranking 18th in the NAIA.
 
 Saunders leads the NAIA, averaging 156.7 rushing yards per game and ranks fifth with 17 touchdowns. Khia Sherrard's 10 receiving touchdowns are tied for the 10th-most in the NAIA. Max Gainey is tied for the NAIA lead in punt return touchdowns with two.  Rankins' 72 tackles this season are the most in the MSC, while Darius Moore's four sacks are tied for third best. Levingston is tied for the most interceptions in the conference with three.
 
 
Bethel (4-4, 3-2 MSC) comes into Saturday's matchup after falling at Campbellsville 38-9 last week. The Wildcats totaled 446 yards of offense in the loss, with 323 coming through the air. Destin Chance completed 30 of his 47 passes for 323 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Ray Harvey was the team's leading receiver, hauling in 12 passes for 149 yards.
 
Bethel averages 20.6 points per game and allows 22.9. The Wildcats average 339.9 yards per game while allowing 316.7.
Saturday's matchup is the 12th all-time meeting between the two schools. Lindsey Wilson holds a 6-5 edge in the series and a 4-1 advantage in McKenzie. Bethel has won the last three meetings including a 33-31 victory in four overtimes last season in Columbia.
