MARSHALL, Mo. – The Lindsey Wilson women's wrestling team recorded three top-five finishes at the Missouri Valley Open on Saturday at the Burns Athletic Center.
In the 117 bracket,
Grace Lashinsky (No. 8 at 117 pounds) finished runner-up. She earned a 12-4 decision over Leiannah Landreth (No. 10 in NCAA at 117 pounds) from Fort Hayes State. Lashinsky then pinned Chloe Sheckells in 39 seconds in the second round. She advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-2 decision over Texas Wesleyan's Carolina Rios (No. 9 in NAIA at 117 pounds). Lashinsky then earned a 5-3 decision over Mia Palumbo in the quarterfinals. She advanced to the finals with a 13-1 tech fall over Mariah Dillard of Wayland Baptist. Lashinsky was pinned in the first-place match.
Kamilah Brooks (No. 7 at 124 pounds) finished fourth in the 124-pound bracket. Brooks began her tournament with a 4-3 decision over Simon Fraser's Laura Alcantor Soto. Brooks then picked up a 5-1 decision over Iowa's Isabella Gonzalez. She earned a 5-1 decision over Tatiana Paragas of William Penn and a 10-0 tech fall over Wayland Baptist's Tess Barnett (No. 11 in NAIA at 124 pounds) in the quarterfinals. Brooks dropped a tough 2-1 decision to McKendree's Shelby Moore (No. 1 in NCAA at 124 pounds) in the semifinals. In the consolation semis, she picked up a 4-1 decision over Isabella Garcia of Iowa.) Brooks was defeated 5-1 in the third-place match.
Jelia Ramos (No. 9 at 131 pounds) posted a fourth-place finish at 131 pounds. She recorded back-to-back tech falls in the 131 bracket. Ramos defeated Texas Wesleyan's Faith Vondy 12-1 and Breanna Thompson of Texas Women's 10-0. She entered the consolation bracket after falling 12-1 to Simon Fraser's Ella Finding. Ramos won her first consolation match with a 10-0 tech fall over Campbellsville's Cameron Oritz (No. 12 in NAIA at 131 pounds). Ramos rattled off four move victories in the consolation bracket to advance to the third-place match. She was pinned by William Penn's Kendall Bostelman (No. 6 in NAIA at 131 pounds) in the third-place match.
Reagan Thomas (No. 16 at 110 pounds) opened her tournament in the 110-pound bracket with a 10-0 tech fall of Southeast CC's Molly Spader. Thomas was then defeated 11-0 by Colorado Mesa's Adriana Gomez (No. 10 in NCAA at 110 pounds). In her first consolation match, she picked up a 10-7 decision over Rachel Corley of Tarleton State. Thomas was then pinned by Iowa Central Community College's Damiyah Smith.
Abigail Vanderheyden began her tournament in the 131-pound bracket with back-to-back pins. Vanderheyden pinned Baker's Audrey Darnell in the first round, then pinned Mystque Anderson of Missouri Valley in round two. Vanderheyden's tournament came to an end with back-to-back losses.
Brielle Bibla dropped her first match to Emma Chacon in the 138 bracket. Bibla pinned Campbellsville's Victoria Huffman in 59 seconds. She picked up her second win in the consolation bracket with a 12-1 tech fall over Lehigh's Morgan Edwards. Bibla continued her run in the consolation rounds with back-to-pins of Ana Vilar of William Penn and Vines. She was then pinned by Tarleton State's Piper Pike.
In the 138-pound bracket,
Aenaya Vines opened her tournament with back-to-back pins. Vines pinned Addison Farquhar of Oklahoma State late in the second period. She then pinned Laila Cuevas from Southeast CC in the first period. Vines' tournament came to end with back-to-back losses to Ashlynn Goodwin of Fort Hayes State and Bibla.
Kori Campbell (No. 9 at 145 pounds) earned a 10-0 tech fall in her first match in the 145 bracket over Quincy's Valeria Rodriguez. Campbell dropped to the consolation bracket after being pinned by Alberta's Aleah Nickel. In her first consolation match, she earned a 15-2 tech fall over Kaylen McAtee of Colby Community College. Campbell's tournament came to an end with a 4-2 loss to Ottawa's Kaitlyn Thorn (No. 18 in NAIA at 145 pounds).
Mallory Ladd (No. 15 at 180 pounds) pinned Aaliyah Grammer in the first round before falling to Mahalia Adams of Iowa Central Community College 10-0. Ladd pinned Montreat's Audrey Gribble (No. 20 in NAIA at 180 pounds) in her first consolation match. She then defeated Talia Reed of Missouri Baptist 10-0. Her tournament came to an end with a 10-0 loss to Kiernan Farmer.
Hayeni Costa (No. 4 at 207 pounds) began her tournament with a 6-4 decision over Grand View's Andjela Prijovic. Costa was then pinned by Texas Wesleyan's Carla Campos (No. 18 in NAIA at 207 pounds). She defeated Hastings' Taylor Rickley (No. 10 in NAIA at 207 pounds) 4-2 in her first consolation match. Costa forfeited her next consolation match ending her tournament.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on December 5 for the first day of the Patriot Duals in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
