Amelia Hodges Joins 1,000 Point Club in 57-54 Loss to Georgia Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.- The women's basketball team fell to Georgia Gwinnett 57-54 Wednesday night in Lawrenceville, Georgia. 

Amelia Hodges became the 16th player in program history to join the Women's Basketball 1,000 point club and led the offensive brigade on the night for the Blue Raiders with 13 points and two rebounds. Meadow Tisdale and Saniyah Shelton added 12 and 11, respectively. 

Jarie Thomas ended a 5-0 run by the Grizzlies on an assist from Saniyah Shelton to open the Blue Raider scoring at 7:27. With 6:59 on the clock, Taylor Guess picked up a steal and found an open Shelton for a jumper to pull the game back 5-4. With both teams trading buckets, a steal and easy lay from Shelton at 4:57 gave Lindsey Wilson their first lead of the game at 8-7. GGC connected on two free throws and a layup while the Blue Raiders converted on a jumper, trailing the Grizzlies 11-10 at the quarter. 

Meadow Tisdale knocked down a jumper on an assist from Thomas at 8:57 to push LWU back ahead 12-11. Georgia Gwinnett went on a 6-1 run that started at 8:36 and was put to an end by an Amelia Hodges three pointer 5:17, cutting the Blue Raider deficit to 17-16. Lindsey Wilson ended the half on a 12-2 run, gaining a 25-19 advantage headed into the locker room. 

An offensive rebound and putback from Tisdale put the Blue Raiders up 27-22 with 9:18 on the clock. Hodges extended the lead to 30-22 with a three at the 8:45 mark. A three by GGC's Christen Collins at 7:12 cut the LWU lead down to 30-26. Two made free throws from Guess and a layup from Shelton pushed the advantage back to 34-26. Gwinnett closed out the third quarter on a 10-8 run, minimizing the Lindsey Wilson lead to 40-36.

Georgia Gwinnett cut the lead to one on another three by Collins just ten seconds into the final quarter. Tisdale found herself at the line to connect on two free throws at 8:39 to grow the lead back to 42-39. With 6:49 remaining, Hodges found the bottom of the net on a jumper to grow the lead back to 46-41. GGC's Maddie Presha and Collins both responded with a layup apiece to cut the deficit to 46-45 with 3:30 on the clock. Tisdale found her stroke from behind the arc, increasing the lead to 49-45 with 3:06 remaining. Collins once again answered back with a three of her own, yielding a one point ballgame with 2:42 to play. Grizzly Jamya Griffin knocked down two free throws at 2:21 to edge the Blue Raiders 50-49. Shelton repossessed a 51-50 lead for LWU on a layup with 1:04, but was answered with another three from Collins. Gwinnett closed out the quarter on a 7-3 run to take the 57-54 victory. 

Women's hoops will be back in action next Friday at 7 P.M. CT and Saturday at 3 P.M. CT in Biggers Sports Center, facing Reinhardt (Ga.) and Tennessee Southern, respectively, during the UC Bank Classic.
