COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team welcomes (RV) Cumberland (Tenn.) to Parnell Family Stadium Saturday for a Senior Day matchup at 1:30 p.m. CT.
The Blue Raiders (7-1, 3-1 Mid-South Conference) were last in action on October 25 defeating Faulkner (Ala.) 48-10 on Homecoming. Lindsey Wilson outgained the Eagles 440-277 and surpassed the 400-yard mark for a fourth straight game.
Davontaye Saunders rushed for 164 yards, surpassing 150 yards for the fifth time this season. Saunders also surpassed 1,000 career rushing yards in the victory.
Max Gainey caught a pair of touchdowns and ran a punt back for one.
Ronald Carr led the Lindsey Wilson defense with 10 tackles while
Jermaine Allen recorded an interception.
Lindsey Wilson enters play averaging 43.4 points per game, which ranks 10th in the NAIA. The Blue Raiders average 442.5 yards a game, ranking 12th. Defensively, Lindsey Wilson allows just 16.8 points per game, ranking 12th in the NAIA. The Blue Raiders lead the NAIA in punt return yards per game with 29.5.
Saunders ranks second, averaging 138.9 rushing yards per game and fifth in the NAIA in rushing touchdowns with 14.
Khia Sherrard's 10 receiving touchdowns are tied for the seventh-most in the NAIA. Gainey is tied for the NAIA lead in punt return touchdowns with two.
Cameron Rankins' 60 tackles this season are tied for the most in the MSC, while
Darius Moore's four sacks are tied for second best.
Cumberland (6-3, 2-2 MSC) comes into Saturday's matchup after defeating Cumberlands (Ky.) 40-37 in overtime. The Phoenix tallied 477 yards of offense, with 256 coming on the ground. Reigning MSC Offensive Player of the Week Jake Parker totaled 292 yards of offense and four touchdowns. Parker completed 8-of-13 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns and had 10 carries for 71 yards and one touchdown. MSC Defensive Player of the Week Chazz Hunter totaled 12 tackles and an interception.
The Phoenix average 26.3 points per game and allow 29.2. Cumberland averages 360.2 yards per game and ranks 19th in the NAIA with 187.7 rushing yards per game. The Phoenix allow 341.9 yards per game and rank 25th in rushing yards allowed per game with 105.3.
Saturday's matchup is the 14th all-time meeting between the two schools. Lindsey Wilson holds a 9-4 edge in the series and a 5-2 advantage in Columbia. The Blue Raiders have won six straight in the series, including a 20-17 comeback victory last season in Lebanon.
