Men’s Wrestling Competes at Millikin Open

DECATUR, Ill. – The Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team took home three individual titles and had an additional four top-eight finishers at the Millikin Open on Saturday

Adrian Ayala (No. 4 at 141 pound) took home the individual title at 141 pounds, posting a 5-0 record. Ayala opened his tournament needing just 57 seconds to pin Jack Dombek of Triton. He advanced to the quarterfinals with an 11-1 major decision over Wabash's Xavier Roberts. Ayala picked up a 15-3 major decision over Millikin's Colin Claffey. After a medical forfeit in the semifinals, Ayala captured the title with a 4-3 decision over Gavin Whitehead (No. 1 in NJCAA at 141 pounds) of Indian Hills.

Nathan Payton finished first in the 149-pound B bracket, going 3-0. Payton pinned Daniel Muth of Illinois Wesleyan in the first round. He advanced to the finals with an 18-3 tech fall of Huntingdon's Casen Guidry. In the finals, Payton pinned Indian Hills' Ryan Singleton in 1:12.

Cory Cannan (No. 14 at 184 pounds) took first in the 184-pound bracket. Cannan defeated Huntingdon's Jacob Clark 15-0 and defeated Wabash's Zachery Huckaby 14-6 in the quarterfinals. He punched his ticket to the finals with an 8-3 decision over Kody Marschner of Millikin. Cannan picked up an 8-3 decision over Cornell's Austin Wilkins.

Miguel Perez posted a runner-up finish at 285 pounds. Perez pinned Blackburn's Spencer Walker in the first round and earned a 19-3 tech fall over Jona Floyd from Indian Hills. He picked up his second pin in the quarterfinals against Aurora's Jamir Thomas. Perez earned a 6-1 decision over Cornell's Brayden Hoffman. In the finals, he medically forfeited in the second period against Naasir Edmonds (No. 1 in NJCAA at 285 pounds) from Indian Hills.

Kriecg Roe finished sixth in the 174-pound bracket. Roe opened his tournament with a pin of Davide Reese of Elmhurst. He then picked up an 18-3 tech fall over Benny Schlosser of Whitewater before falling to Wabash's Jaylen Young. Roe advanced to the consolation semifinals after a medical forfeit and earned a spot in the fifth-place match with a pin of Harper's Peter Greco. He dropped an 8-1 decision to Aurora's Jack Seacrist to finish sixth.

Alex Tabor finished eighth at 133 pounds. After losing his first match to Jayson Stevens of Cornell, Tabor rattled off three straight consolation victories. He earned a 9-4 decision over Thomas More's Christopher Ferraro in his first consolation match. Tabor then picked up a 15-9 decision against Illinois Wesleyan's Tyson Zvonar. He advanced to the consolation semifinals with a 19-5 major decision over Ethan Agnew of Whitewater. Tabor lost his next two matches to finish in eighth.

Kiowa Vines earned an eighth-place finish at 149 pounds. Vines dropped his first match to Thomas More's Matt Ellis before winning four consecutive consolation matches. He pinned Cornell's Ethan Hady in the first period and earned a 13-0 major decision against Jon Huggler of Cornerstone College. Vines reached the consolation semifinals with back-to-back pins of Cornell's Jax Miller and Wabash's Jessie Franklin. Vines lost his last two matches to finish eighth.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on November 15 at the Grand View Open in Des Moines, Iowa.
