Men’s Wrestling Defeats Rochester Christian & Midway

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 22-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team faced off against (RV) Rochester Christian (Mich.) and Midway (Ky.) on Monday night at Biggers Sports Center. 

The Blue Raiders defeated Rochester Christian by a score of 31-17. Lindsey Wilson then defeated Midway 34-15.

Jorge Bravo won the 125 lb. match via forfeit, giving Lindsey Wilson the early 6-0 lead. Nick Alayan defeated Alex Tabor by fall in the first period, tying the score at 6-6.  Adrian Ayala (No. 4 at 141 pounds) then gave the Blue Raiders a 12-6 lead after defeating Christian Rojas by fall in the second period. Dakota Quinlan gave the Warriors four more points after defeating Nathan Payton by a 14-2 major decision. Hunter Thomson gave the Warriors a 13-12 lead after defeating Brandon Irigoyen by a 10-4 decision at 157 pounds. Jaiden Moore gave the Blue Raiders the lead back to make the score 17-13, after defeating Sebastian Prisbeat 165 pounds. 

The Lindsey Wilson lead was extended to 23-13 after Kriecg Roe defeated Christian Preston by fall at the 57-second mark of the first period. Cory Cannan then defeated David VanDaele by tech fall, increasing the lead to 28-13. Nick Meli was able to cut the Warriors' deficit to 28-17 after defeating Jostyn Cardenas-Zayas by major decision. Jaylin Bien-Aime won the 285-pound match, defeating Sawyer Kuenzer by a 4-1 decision to give the Blue Raiders the 31-17 win over the Warriors.

Bravo pinned Zach Lewis 1:00 into the first period, making the score 6-0 for Lindsey Wilson. Alex Velazquez cut the Midway deficit in half by defeating Arlo Laxton in a 14-10 decision, cutting the Lindsey Wilson lead to 6-3. Ayala increased the Blue Raider lead to 12-3 after defeating Lucas Hall with a fall at 2:34 in the first period. Wyatt Davis made the Lindsey Wilson lead 15-3, earning a 13-6 decision over Nolan Jones at 149 pounds. Irigoyen secured six points for the Blue Raiders by winning via forfeit at 157 pounds, making the score 19-3. 

Aidan Karpinski gave the Eagles six points after defeating Moore by fall in the first period, making the score 19-9. Roe extended the lead for the Blue Raiders by defeating Jaxon Truax by fall at 1:41 into the first period to make the score 25-9. Cannan increased the Blue Raiders' lead to 31-9, defeating Sebastian Hutchinson with a tech fall 23 seconds into the third period. Stephen Browning pinned Standford Thompson at the 3:26 mark of the match at 197 pounds, making the score 31-15. Bien-Aime defeated Anthony Popi in the 285 lb match to make the score 34-15. 

The Blue Raiders are next in action on January 3, when they compete in the Hawk Classic Duals in Montgomery, Alabama.
