No. 4 Lindsey Wilson falls to No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett in ITA NAIA Indoor Team Championship Semifinals

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis battled against No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett but fell 4-1 in the ITA NAIA Indoor Team Championship semifinals at Overland Park Racquet Center.

The Grizzlies (4-0) secured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The Blue Raiders (1-2) claimed a dominant 6-1 victory on court two, where Anastasiia Ivanchenko and Mayra Gisone defeated Alexandra Melnikova and Elizabet Verizova. However, Georgia Gwinnett responded with wins on courts three and one to claim the early 1-0 lead.

In singles, Lindsey Wilson quickly leveled the match at 1-1 after a hard-fought victory from Mariangeles Mateu on court three. The No. 16-ranked Blue Raider rallied after dropping the first set to defeat Cherysh Henry 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The Grizzlies then took control, adding consecutive wins on courts six and five. No. 18-ranked Isid Hernandez secured a 6-0, 6-2 win over Heyka Rodriguez, while MaryLove Edwards followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Gisone to put Georgia Gwinnett up 3-1.

Lindsey Wilson fought back on multiple courts, forcing third sets at the No. 1, 2, and 4 positions. However, the Grizzlies clinched the match on court two, where No. 3-ranked Justine Lespes outlasted No. 11-ranked Anastasiia Vorobiova 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 to secure the 4-1 victory.

With the loss, Lindsey Wilson will play for third place, where the Blue Raiders will face the loser of the semifinal between Keiser (Fla.) and Xavier (La.).
