Women’s Basketball Hits The Hardwood Against No. 6 Patriots

COLUMBIA, Ky.- Women's basketball hits the hardwood against No. 6 University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) Patriots for their second match-up this season at 5:30 p.m. CST in Biggers Sports Center. 

Reigning Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the week Taylor Guess leads the offensive brigade for the Blue Raiders in conference play with 18.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. Saniyah Shelton is the other Blue Raider in double digit scoring in conference play with 13.8, alongside 7.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists.

Lindsey Wilson (15-9, 2-6 MSC) is coming off an 81-76 upset win over the then-ranked No.7 Tigers of Georgetown (Ky.) at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym after an offensive surge in the final ten minutes of action. Four Blue Raiders ended in double figures with Guess leading the way with 24 points, nine boards, and five assists. Claire Fleming ended  the night with 23 points, while going nine-for-nine at the charity stripe. Shelton tallied 11 points alongside nine boards, and Grace Brewer came off the bench contributing 10 points.

The University of the Cumberlands (21-3, 7-1 MSC) is also coming off a win against Georgetown after a late run in the fourth led them to a 78-68 road win. Kassie Monday leads the offense in conference play averaging 14.3 points, and 8.4 assists. After picking up seven assists against the Tigers, Monday leads the NAIA with 187 dimes on the season. Lakin Burke, Joy Kendrick, and Kaylie Monday are the other three Patriots averaging double digits in MSC play with 13.9, 12.9, 11.9 points, respectively. 

Lindsey Wilson and the Cumberlands first match-up this season came on January 30, at the O. Wayne Rollins Center in Williamsburg, Ky. where the Patriots won 76-56. Guess had 27 points in 38 minutes of play while Shelton was held scoreless in 34 minutes of play with a team-high six rebounds and three assists. The Blue Raiders were out-rebounded 49-18, and held to 39.0 percent from the floor, 27.3 percent from behind the arc, and only shot 10 free throws, hitting seven. Lindsey Wilson turned the ball over eight times, while turning the Patriots over 16 times but only converted 12 points off the turnovers. 

The all-time record between the two teams is dead-locked at 18-18, as the Blue Raiders look to break their six-game losing streak against the University of the Cumberlands.

Tip-off will happen at 5:30 p.m. CST against the No. 6 Patriots in Biggers Sports Center, immediately followed by the men taking on the No. 19 Patriots at 7:30 p.m. CST.
