Men’s Wrestling Finishes Fourth at MSC Championship; Four Blue Raiders Earn All-Conference Honors

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team finished fourth at the Mid-South Conference Championship Friday at Ephram White Gym.

Four Blue Raiders earned All-Conference honors finishing in the top three of their respective weight classes. Chase Ayers and Clarence Lee-Green IV finished second and third at 125 pounds while Adrian Ayala posted a runner-up finish at 141 pounds. Tony Rogers took home all-conference honors after a third-place finish at 285 pounds. All four Blue Raiders have earned automatic bids into the NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championship. Ayala was also named to the MSC Champions of Character Team conference officials announced Friday during the championship.

Lindsey Wilson totaled 91 points to finish fourth. Cumberlands (Ky.) took home the championship with 170 points while Campbellsville (Ky.) finished runner-up with 151 points. Cumberland (Tenn.) was third with 140.5 points. Midway (Ky.) and Rio Grande (Ohio) round out the team standings with 71 and 48 points, respectively.

Ayers (No. 19 in NAIA at 125 pounds) earned a bye into the 125-pound semifinals. He recorded a second-period pin of Cumberland's Truth Vesey in his first match to advance to the finals. Ayers dropped a 9-3 decision to Matteo Vargo (No. 15 at 125) from Cumberlands in the championship match.

Ayala (No. 18 at 141) earned a 3-0 decision over Campbellsville's Bryant Beane in the quarterfinals. After a scoreless first period, he earned his first point at two stalling calls on Beane in the second period. Ayala earned an escape and earned the riding time point for the 3-0 victory. He then defeated Cumberlands' Gage Hudson (No. 9 at 141) 11-7 in the semifinals. Ayala led 6-3 going into the third period and then took a 7-3 lead on an early escape. Hudson made it 7-6 with a takedown. Ayala secured the victory with an escape and a takedown with 39 seconds left. In the finals, he fell to Jared Dinh (No. 7 at 141) from Cumberland 4-0.

Lee-Green (No. 15 at 125) opened his tournament with an 8-6 loss to Vesey. He trailed 3-1 after the first period and held a 5-4 lead going into the final two minutes. Vesey tied the match at 5-5 with an escape and clinched the win with a takedown with 15 seconds remaining. Lee-Green defeated Cumberland's Ellis Haney 12-1 in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place match, he got his revenge over Vesey with a dominating 15-1 major decision.

Rogers began his day with a first-period pin over Midway's Oscar Adams. He was then defeated 18-0 in the semifinals by Campbellsville's Gabe Craig (No. 3 at 285). Rogers pinned teammate Jaylin Bien-Aime in the first period of the consolation semifinals. He pinned Midway's Aaron Garcia (No. 25 at 285) in the first period in the third-place match.
Arlo Laxton finished fifth at 133 pounds. Laxton was defeated by Campbellsville's Izaeh Beavers (No. 4 at 133) and fell to Wyatt Hinton from Campbellsville 15-1 in the consolation semifinals. Laxton earned a 3-2 decision over teammate Alex Tabor in the fifth-place match.

Chris Morales finished sixth at 174 pounds. Morales fell to Dylan Preston (No. 8 at 174) from Cumberlands 12-0 in the quarterfinals. In his first consolation match, he picked up a 16-4 major decision over Midway's Michael Colligan. Morales then dropped his next two matches to finish sixth.

Cale Johnson went 1-2 at 184 pounds to finish fifth. Johnson was defeated by Cumberland's Rocco Horvath (No. 14 at 184) and Midway's David Emfinger. He earned a 13-7 decision in the fifth-place match over Ashton Simison from Rio Grande.

Bien-Aime posted a fifth-place finish at 285 pounds. He began his tournament being pinned by Garcia in the second period before bouncing back with a 7-1 decision over Rio Grande's Michael Peneski. After losing to Rogers, Bien-Aime picked up a 9-6 decision against Adams in the fifth-place match.

The Blue Raiders now begin preparations for the NAIA National Championship which gets underway on March 6 in Park City, Kansas.
