Women’s Basketball Drops Highway 55 Matchup at No. 4 Campbellsville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team fell in "The Battle of Highway 55" Thursday to No. 4 Campbellsville (Ky.) 79-68 at the Powell Athletic Center.

The Blue Raiders (15-12, 2-9 Mid-South Conference) shot a season-high 57.1 percent from three and connected on all 18 of their attempts from the charity stripe. Taylor Guess led the Blue Raiders scoring 20 points going 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and 8-of-8 on free throws. Jarie Thomas added 16 points on 80 percent shooting (8-of-10) while Claire Fleming scored 13 points and had a career-high nine assists. Emily Cox was the final Blue Raider in double figures with 11 points.

Lindsey Wilson started the first ten minutes of action on a 5-1 run that lasted 1:23 with Cox drilling a three from the wing and Guess knocking down two free throws. Paige Serafini answered with a three for the Tigers, followed by Guess swishing a three of her own putting the Blue Raiders up 8-4. At 5:27, Fleming found Cox cutting to the block for an easy lay in. After a Lauren Lee free throw and Serafini jumper, the Tigers pulled ahead 13-12 with 4:44 to play. Fleming picked up her third assist of the game finding Guess at the top of the key for a three at 3:44. The Blue Raiders closed out the quarter on an 8-2 run with all eight points coming from the free throw line. 

Thomas and Fleming picked up scoring right where Lindsey Wilson left off, converting on back-to-back baskets at 9:01 and 8:42 giving the Blue Raiders a 27-19 lead. At 4:11 Fleming found Guess behind the arc on the left wing, extending the Blue Raider lead to 32-29. Campbellsville ended the quarter on a 20-11 giving them the 39-38 advantage into the locker room. 

Fleming gave the Blue Raiders a 40-39 lead in the early seconds of the third quarter. The Tigers then took a 42-40 advantage before the Blue Raiders tied the game at 42 with 7:11 left in the quarter. Lindsey Wilson trailed 46-42 before going on a 5-1 run capped off by a Thomas jumper to tie the game at 47-47. The Tigers went on a 6-0 run that lasted 2:08 to take a 53-47 lead. Lindsey Wilson fought back scoring the next five points trimming the deficit to one with 1:46 to play in the quarter. Campbellsville ended the quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 60-54 lead into the final 10 minutes.

The Tigers started the fourth quarter scoring five of the first seven points increasing their lead to 65-56 with 7:27 to play. Guess connected on a three that started an 8-4 run for Lindsey Wilson cutting the deficit to 69-64 with under five minutes to play. The Blue Raiders trailed 73-68 with 2:31 to play before the Tigers ended the game on a 6-0 run.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Saturday for its regular season finale against Cumberland (Tenn.) at 1 p.m. CT at Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena.
