COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team travels closes out the regular season against Cumberland (Tenn.) at 1 p.m. CT Saturday at Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena.
The Blue Raiders (15-12, 2-9 Mid-South Conference) enter play coming off a 79-68 loss at No. 4 Campbellsville (Ky.) on Thursday. Lindsey Wilson shot a season-high shot a season-high 57.1 percent from three and connected on all 18 of their attempts from the charity stripe.
Taylor Guess led the Blue Raiders scoring 20 points,
Jarie Thomas added 16 points on 80 percent shooting (8-of-10) and
Claire Fleming scored 13 points and had a career-high nine assists.
This season, Guess ranks tied for fifth in the MSC averaging 15.5 points per game while averaging 16.9 per game in conference play.
Saniyah Shelton is the other Blue Raider averaging double figures in conference play averaging 13.6 points per game. As a team, Lindsey Wilson averages 64.5 points per game against conference opponents and allows 76.4.
The Phoenix (8-18, 0-11 MSC) come into Saturday's matchup having lost their last 12 games. Cumberland was last in action on Feb. 15 falling to No. 6 Cumberlands (Ky.) 85-63 on the road. Ever Walker led the Phoenix with 18 points while Emaleigh Tarpley was also in double figures with 16. Kayla Gordon leads Cumberland averaging 11.6 points per game while Tarpley averages 11.1 and leads the conference in rebounds per game with 8.5. Cumberland averages just 57.7 points per game and allows 64.8.
The two teams last met on Jan. 18 in Columbia with the Blue Raiders picking up a 69-97 victory. Thomas scored the game-winning basket for Lindsey Wilson with just one second left on the clock. Guess led the Blue Raiders with 19 points while Shelton had 16. Thomas and Fleming were also in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Lindsey Wilson has won the last three matchups over Cumberland and has won eight of the last nine matchups in Lebanon.
