COLUMBIA, Ky. – When the Lindsey Wilson softball team's original home-opener against Bryan (Tenn.) on February 18 was postponed due to weather, it was looking like the Blue Raiders would have to wait another month to play to Marilyn D. Sparks Park. That changed, however, when head coach Callum Pilgrim announced the addition of Northwestern Ohio to the schedule this past weekend.
Now, Lindsey Wilson will open its 2025 home slate with the Racers at 3 p.m. CST on Tuesday, February 25 before traveling to Union Commonwealth (Ky.) for a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. CST on Wednesday.
The Blue Raiders last took the field on Valentine's Day weekend in Lawrenceville, Georgia where they went 1-4 against the likes of No. 9 Georgia Gwinnett, No. 25 Coastal Georgia, and (RV) Rio Grande (Ohio).
Melaina Tucker batted 6-for-13 with a double during the three-day weekend, while
Sam Hartman drove in six runs on six hits and
Brooklynn Becker also contributed six hits.
In the circle,
Grace Adams made four appearances. She fired a team-high 13.1 innings of work, allowed six earned runs and retired 12 on strikes. Freshman
Hallie Roberts recorded the Blue Raiders' lone win after dealing a one-hit, seven-strikeout shutout of Rio Grande.
Northwestern Ohio enters Tuesday in search of its first win of the season. The Racers dropped back-to-back contests to Cumberlands (Ky.) and Campbellsville (Ky.) back on February 14 in Williamsburg and have not played since. Last year, Northwestern Ohio took two games from the Blue Raiders.
Union Commonwealth, on the other hand, only just opened its season on Monday, February 24 with a two-game sweep of Midway (Ky.). The Bulldogs found themselves on the wrong side of a
Madyson Jones walk-off home run and
Kayden Murray perfect game a season ago.
Tuesday's single non-conference game versus Northwestern Ohio will be broadcast live on the Lindey Wilson Sports Network. Coverage of Wednesday's doubleheader at Union will be provided by Union Commonwealth Athletics on their YouTube channel.
